May 11, 2008 // 3:21 am - Bioware's highly acclaimed and formerly XBox 360 exclusive RPG Mass Effect is fast approaching its release on the PC. Most PC gamers were undoubtedly pleased to hear about enhanced graphics, faster load times, and a re-designed menu system; but it's likely that fewer were happy to hear about the evil digital rights management that will be unscrupulously bundled with the game.

Like an increasing number of PC games nowadays, Mass Effect will require an online activation when it is installed. This has been common practice ever since Half-Life 2. But Mass Effect will also "phone home"...

May 1, 2008 // 1:08 am - Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday suggesting that both Xbox 360 and PS3 systems are freezing up during playback of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The issue is said to affect an unknown number of Xbox 360 and PS3 systems, either during the opening cut scene of the game or while trying to exit multiplayer mode, resulting in an inability to advance in the game, or worse, an inability to play any game on the affected console.

Multiple GamePro, Kotaku, NeoGAF, and Shacknews users have complained, with no consensus of a proven user fix.

Microsoft Looking into Early GTA IV Players 100°
April 24, 2008 // 4:53 pm - A peek at Gamercard aggregator reveals a long list of Xbox 360 users already racking up achievements on Grand Theft Auto IV since an illegal torrent of the game was leaked yesterday and early copies started showing up in people's homes.

Neither Rockstar nor Microsoft itself have yet responded to Kotaku's requests for comment. Neither has Sony commented on any action it might take regarding video of the game being played on its network – video that GameTrailers, for its part, has since pulled – so it's unclear yet how any of them plan to address the software pirates.

Turn your game console into a media hub 50°
April 11, 2008 // 10:52 pm - The Good: Universal plug-and-play (UPnP) application; works with all three video game consoles and other IP-enabled devices; no real limits to how much content you can accumulate with the software

The Bad: Graphical user-interface isn't the sleekest; learning curve might be intimidating at first, particularly when it comes to Web content; still no Mac or Linux support.

The Verdict: Bringing all that PC and Web content to your TV at the same time.

One of the biggest unknowns for someone who owns both a computer and next-gen video game console is that the...
