PSN's The Tester Season 1 Winner: Where is Will Powers Now?

PSN's The Tester Season 1 Winner: Where is Will Powers Now? 50°
229w ago - PlayStation Network Executive Producer Kevin Furuichi has shared a look back at PSN's The Tester Season 1 winner Will Powers today alongside a glimpse of what he's doing now.

To quote: It's been almost six months since the end of the inaugural season of "The Tester". In April, we introduced you to our first winner, Will "Cyrus" Powers.

As we prepare for the second season of "The Tester," set to premiere on Tuesday, November 2, we thought it would be a good time to catch up with Will about his experience as a QA Tester for PlayStation, how it has affected his gaming habits and impacted his trophy collection.

So what's up with Will these days? Well, here's what we learned...

Kevin Furuichi, executive producer for PlayStation Network: It has been six months since you started working at Sony. What has the experience been like?

Will Powers, winner of "The Tester": The experience overall has been a blast. Testing may not be a super glamorous position, but its importance within the industry cannot be overstated. Being able to get my hands on games six months, sometimes even a year, before they are released is still just as exhilarating as it was the first time. But, the most rewarding...

Q&A With PS3 GT Academy 2009 Winner Lucas Ordonez

Q&A With PS3 GT Academy 2009 Winner Lucas Ordonez 100°
273w ago - Today Sony's European Brand Manager Penrose Tackie has shared a Q&A interview with PS3 GT Academy 2009 Winner Lucas Ordonez, as follows:

With the launch of the new GT Academy on December 17, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to grab last year's winner for a bit of a Q and A. Lucas Ordonez was a 23-year-old MBA student in Madrid when he heard about GT Academy in May, 2008.

As a motor sport fanatic, Lucas went out and bought himself a copy of GT5 Prologue and set to work. His dedication paid dividends when he won through to Spain's national finals and then into the GT Academy itself at Silverstone. As a result, he'll be mentoring next year's winner at the GT Academy 2010.

Not only was Lucas kind enough to answer the questions below, but he'll also be available in the comments to respond to any other queries you have.

How did you first get involved with GT Academy?

I was with some friends and we were looking through a motor sport magazine and I saw an advert from PlayStation and Nissan for GT Academy. I have always been a big motor sport fan and had a little bit of racing experience. I thought if I can train myself to be quick on Gran Turismo then I might have a chance.

"I already had a PS3TM, but I went straight...

Warhawk winners fly Jet Plane

Warhawk winners fly Jet Plane 50°
355w ago - Two lucky gamers had the chance of a lifetime after winning our online Warhawk tournament on PLAYSTATION3. The winners Dubsix & RasOlo were given the incredible opportunity to take a flight in a 'real' L-39C jet fighter plane.

This is Warhawk for real! Not only did these lucky chaps get to experience the heart-pumping G-forces of riding in an actual jet plane, but they even had the opportunity (albeit momentarily...) to actually take control of the throttle and 'barrel-roll' this amazing piece of aeronautical engineering.

We're not kidding! Read the full interview with dubsix & RasOlo below:

RasOlo: Since the minute it was in the PlayStation Store.

dubsix: Downloaded soon after release via the Playstation Store, so around 6-7months

RasOlo: Relax, have fun and play as I normally do. It was a last chance round so i thought I'd give it a go.

dubsix: Well it was all about points, so I had to be greedy and get as many as possible, they were long matches and had to keep in the action the whole time

Winner: Vii meets the PS3 and a new legacy is born

Winner: Vii meets the PS3 and a new legacy is born 50°
373w ago - An eager tipster sent in a pic and some info on what appears to be some sort of PS3 clone called "Winner" - think Vii meets PS3.

While the Vii concentrated on mimicking (horribly, but still) the Wii's feature set, the Winner is all about mimicking the PS3's myriad media functionalities. That means a photo player, karaoke functions, SDHC for media storage. But it's all about the (really crappy) games, right?

Winner is going to be packing 2D and 3D graphics with online and motion sensing features (note the totally not-a-Wiimote controller). How much would you expect to pay for the privilege? Did you say $600? No! Did you say $400? No!

How does $120-150 sound? At that bargain basement price, these things are really going to go fast; good thing they're promising 3 million consoles for the Japanese and North American markets.
