Is Windows 7 Gaming Performance Over Vista Worth Trying? 500°
300w ago - How is Windows 7 PC gaming better than Windows Vista gaming?

The Windows 7 64 bit edition seems to handle the 64 bit technology better than both Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64.

It seems to do this so well that even the 32 bit programs have extra room to breathe because the system resources and other background programs are able to run in an efficient 64 bit environment.

This is ironic, because many people were under the impression that Windows 7 gaming would not be as good because Windows 7 64 bit would need to use a 32 bit emulator to run 32 bit...

Microsoft in Deep Trouble with Internet Explorer Decline & Vista? 300°
339w ago - Microsoft once had a near monopoly on Web browsers with Explorer, so it comes almost as a shock to find that the Web browser most used to access Bruceongames is Firefox 3 and that even the undermarketed Chrome has made a significant impact.

When it comes to search Google always had the majority of the market but MSN now seems to have slipped away to nearly nothing. It doesn't bring many people here.

You can forgive the above because Microsoft, famously, misunderstood the internet so came to it late. Operating systems are different though, Microsoft have owned this sector...

Windows Vista SP2 BETA - Build 16489 Available for Download 100°
342w ago - In parallel with the development of Windows 7, Microsoft is also taking Windows Vista to the next level. The Vista evolution is synonymous with the jump from SP1 to SP2, and Microsoft is already offering a taste of the second service pack for the operating system.

In mid-October, the Redmond company delivered the first pre-beta bits of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 to a selected pool of testers.

Subsequently, just as Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President, Windows Product Management announced on October 29, the pre-beta Vista SP2 testing program was extended to a...

From this Vista, it looks like the Same Old Microsoft 350°
346w ago - Just when you thought it was safe to convert to Windows Vista, Microsoft changes its mind, again. This soap opera is getting to be a little old.

In early October, Microsoft admitted that it didn't discontinue XP in June after all, and would continue selling via system builders through January 2009. This is accomplished via "downgrade" rights: Dell, for example, will sell you a system with Windows XP Professional installed, but it also includes the latest version of Vista.

Meanwhile, you can still buy boxed XP at Amazon, among other places. The June deadline in itself...

Sanity Check: Five Reasons Why Windows Vista Failed 200°
347w ago - On Friday, Microsoft gave computer makers a six-month extension for offering Windows XP on newly-shipped PCs. While this doesn't impact enterprise IT – because volume licensing agreements will allow IT to keep installing Windows XP for many years to come – the move is another symbolic nail in Vista's coffin.

The public reputation of Windows Vista is in shambles, as Microsoft itself tacitly acknowledged in its Mojave ad campaign.

IT departments are largely ignoring Vista. In June (18 months after Vista's launch), Forrester...
