GameStop Study Claims Game Downloads Not Viable Until 2014 400°
June 20, 2009 // 9:30 pm - Retailer GameStop has claimed that digital game downloads will not really take-off until 2014.

Their study also concludes that gamers are only willing to spend $39 per downloadable game.

Research Study Finds Japanese PS3 Owners Are Graphics Addicts 200°
May 25, 2009 // 11:39 pm - Tokyo-based market researcher Net-Asia has released some new findings in reference to Japanese gaming trends.

The poll noted that out of those surveyed with a PS3, 66 percent of them believed that the graphical prowess of the console was a reason to own it.

To quote: When asked why they owned their respective consoles, 81% of the PS3 owners responded that they bought it for the gamse, while only 52% of Wii owners got their system for the games.

Study: Sony PS3 Owners Prefer Gaming Over Sex 650°
April 5, 2009 // 2:32 pm - A recent study of over 1,100 British men found that most of them preferred video games over sex.

Wait, what? Thankfully this study was of PS3 owners, that means Xbox 360, Wii and PC gamers still have some of their dignity intact.

BBC Study Finds 40 Percent of MMORPG Gamers Are Bi-Females 50°
December 23, 2008 // 9:38 pm - The BBC reports that a study has found an unusually high level of bisexuality among women who play online MMO's. The study looked at 2,400 members of the population who played Everquest II.

To quote: I think a lot of our stereotypes are based on the way computer games have been, rather than where they're going.

The pressure to conform to traditional gender roles might mean that some women are put off activities seen as "masculine", whereas women who reject traditional gender roles might be more likely to play MMOs such as EverQuest II.

Study shows PS3 Gamers are Buying Movies too 50°
August 5, 2008 // 6:32 pm - A new consumer survey from ABI Research has revealed that while there is a widespread reluctance for consumers to commit to a Blu-ray player in the near future.

ABI Research say that there is a bright spot, however, with the PS3 "rapidly becoming a favorite for hard-core gamers and so the installed base of sockets for Blu-ray discs continues to climb."

Study Finds 87% of PS3 Owners Watch Blu-ray on Console 50°
July 8, 2008 // 6:35 pm - The PlayStation 3 appears to be the Blu-ray player of choice, as 87 percent of PS3 owners watch Blu-ray movies on their console, says a report from the Entertainment Merchants Association.

The 2008 Annual Report on the Home Entertainment Industry says the PS3 will remain the driving force behind Blu-ray sales until 2009.

Microsoft, which did not integrate a HD DVD drive into the Xbox 360 sold only 316,000 HD DVD add-ons for the console in 2007, the reports says.

Blu-ray usage on the rise among PS3 owners, study concludes 50°
May 3, 2008 // 4:19 pm - Are you using your PS3 for Blu-ray movies? A new study shows that yes, in fact, you are. Blu-ray usage is on the rise amongst PS3 owners, according to Warner Home Video's research.

It seems that between the last quarter of 2007 and the end of February saw a usage increase of the PS3 as a Blu-ray player from 53% to 80%. In addition to this, after Sony's ad campaign pushing Blu-ray, disc sales rose from 10% to 15% between October and December of 2007.

Take it as you will, but the PS3 is definitely paving the road for Blu-ray and we hope you get more out of your system...

Study links video games to reckless driving 50°
March 24, 2008 // 9:14 pm - Inspired by last year's death of Toronto taxi driver Tahir Khan, who was hit on a winding ravine road by a teenage street racer with a copy of the video game Need for Speed in his car, German psychologists have compiled the most extensive case yet that racing games cause reckless driving.

Playing such titles as Burnout, Midnight Racer and Need for Speed "increases risk-taking behaviour in critical road traffic situations," the team led by Peter Fischer reports today in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied.
