Citizens of Earth: Retro-Inspired RPG Out Today on PS4 and PS Vita

300°
5w ago - Atlus PR Manager John Hardin announced today that the retro-inspired Citizens of Earth is officially out today on PS4 and PS Vita platforms.

To quote: Greetings, citizens of Earth - I'm here to talk about, uh... Citizens of Earth. Errr, right!

Today, ATLUS and indie developer Eden Industries will put you in the role of the second-highest bureaucrat on the planet, the Vice President of Earth. But don't let the politics fool you, because there aren't any in the game.

It's a retro-inspired RPG through and through, where as the VP you have to go around and figure out why the world has gone mad.

But here's the deal. When you're a career politician, you don't get your hands dirty, you make other people do it for you. As the VP, your job will be to recruit as many citizens as possible and use their special abilities to round out your party.

There are more than 40 citizens total, but you can only bring three of them with you at a time. And in addition to basic combat skills, the citizens also have special talents that can be utilized to help outside of combat. Deep in a dungeon and need some health items?

Have your Brother order...

Spiky Fish Games Unveils Sketchcross, A Puzzle Game for PS Vita

16w ago - Spiky Fish Games CEO Kendal Cormany unveiled Sketchcross, a puzzle game for PS Vita today with details below.

To quote: Hi everyone, my name is Kendal and I'm the CEO and lead programmer at Spiky Fish Games. We're excited to announce that our debut game, Sketchcross, is launching exclusively for PS Vita in early 2015.

Sketchcross is a logic puzzler based on the nonogram ruleset. If you're not familiar, think of a mix between crosswords and sudoku. You're given number clues on the rows and columns to help sketch in the corresponding squares on the grid.

Doing so starts to reveal the picture you're creating. A full-fledged nonogram-based game has not yet been fully realized for Playstation here in North America, and we were determined to change that.

Sketchcross will launch with 50 puzzles ranging from simple 5X5 shapes to complex 30X30 animals. The game has been designed to be easily expandable and our plan is to offer additional puzzles after launch.

Solving puzzles reveals the completed shape in block form, solving all the puzzles in a book awards the player that book's unique trophy. Trophy's are stored in your trophy room and are accessible at any time. Additionally, each puzzle has a time leaderboard where you can compare your completed times with the...

Sony on How Real-life Conflict Inspired Far Cry 4 for PlayStation 4

50°
27w ago - Sony's Tom Wallis revealed details today on how real-life conflict inspired Far Cry 4 for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

To quote: Far Cry 4 is the upcoming first-person shooter from developer Ubisoft Montreal.

Set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, this nation torn apart by war draws heavily from real-world locations to make the game feel authentic.

We caught up with Mark Thompson, narrative director, and Alex Hutchinson, creative director, to find out how visiting Nepal to meet people who actually fought in the civil war helped to inspire the development of Far Cry 4.

"One of the first things we did was to write down a list of different animals to include in the game," Mark told us when we met up with the team at Ubisoft recently in Montreal.

"We also made a list of environment features we wanted. From that we looked at locations where the two would make sense, and we came to the Himalayas. We needed to find somewhere that had a history of conflict - somewhere that could be politically unstable - the kind of place that you would go to that was on the edge of the map. Places that are referred to as 'failed states.'"

The difference...

Video: JBraamz: The Sci-Fi Inspirations of Velocity 2X on PS4

27w ago - FuturLab Technical Director Hussain Sheikh shared a video today showcasing their JBraamz lens flares and on the Sci-Fi inspirations of Velocity 2X for PS4.

To quote: Hi everyone! My name is Hussain Sheikh and I'm the Technical Director at FuturLab!

I've been writing a series of 'making of' articles about Velocity 2X over on our blog, and today PlayStation.Blog has kindly offered to host this particular post about the most awesome of visual effects: LENS FLARES!

Since the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek in 2009, people noticed just how much lens flares were synonymous with sci-fi. Carrying that baton forward, we decided to go full on J.J. Abrams crazy with on Velocity 2X.

Have a look at these beautiful things in our early concept art, seen just to the right of this paragraph.

Actually we were so inspired by J.J. Abrams' style of lens flares that we started talking about them all the time.

After many months of this, the inevitable abbreviations began, and what started as "J.J.Abrams style lens flares" soon became "J.J. Abrams flares" then "JAbramzFlares"...
