New on EU PlayStation Store: The Order 1886, QBert and Hand of Fate

New on EU PlayStation Store: The Order 1886, QBert and Hand of Fate 400°
2w ago - Sony's Jawad Ashraf of the PS Store Team is here with this weeks new content on the EU PlayStation Store including The Order 1886, QBert and Hand of Fate.

To quote: First up, The Order 1886 arrives this week. Galahad and his team of royal knights trek the streets of rainy London in search of inhuman nasties. Equip yourself with outlandish weaponry and tech in order to triumph in the war that has spanned centuries.

Making a comeback is Q*Bert. Some of you may be too young to have played the original (even I am, believe me), but Q*Bert Rebooted brings back pixel-perfect old-school Q*Bert in 2D, along with a re-imagined 3D version.

Both require quick thinking to conquer so be glad you aren't paying per credit like in the old days.

We've also got a storm of discounts on PS Store, from amazing PS Vita titles to PS4 blockbusters such as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

As we're celebrating PS Vita's birthday, we're delighted to give fans access to two themes to spice things up. There's a montage of characters featured on one theme, available for free, and there's also a special Toro and Friends theme featuring everyone's loveable cat, available for free for one week.

Video: Hand of Fate PS4 Out Today on PlayStation 4, What to Expect 250°
2w ago - Defiant Development Associate Producer Kim Allom shared a PS4 video today announcing that Hand of Fate arrives today on PlayStation 4 with details below of what to expect!

To quote: Hi guys! Kim from Defiant Development, here. Today marks the launch of Hand of Fate on PS4, and I wanted to give ya'll insight into what you should expect while you play this roguelike deckbuilder we hold dear to our hearts.

Before I get to the juicy stuff, allow me to talk a bit about Defiant and how Hand of Fate came to fruition.

So we're an indie studio based in Brisbane, Australia (more commonly known as 'Straya) - home to bird-eating spiders and dingoes that eat babies. At least the beaches and forests are nice.

I digress! Over the last four years we've built a team of local veterans of the console industry (Pandemic, THQ, SEGA, and Krome), and fresh new talent.

A couple of successful mobile games later, we found ourselves in a strong position where the team can bring indie to console, thus the conception of Hand of Fate.

In fact, we'll be the first Australian studio to both self-publish and develop a title for PS4. This is a massive achievement for us, and 'Straya as a whole!

Video: Drawn to Death, Hand-Drawn Arena Shooter Coming to PS4 50°
13w ago - Video Game Designer / Director David Jaffe made available a PS4 video trailer video today announcing that Drawn to Death, a hand-drawn arena shooter, is coming to PlayStation 4.

To quote: Hey y'all! David Jaffe here, game director at The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency.

Today's a big, big day for all of us at our little game making and ghost hunting studio.

As for the ghost hunting team, Bartlet and crew have made some big discoveries in the whole Al Capone opera house haunting. Keep an eye out for an update that should be hitting your favorite ghost hunting site soon (and perhaps major news sites as well if what Bartlet thinks they've found ends up being authenticated!)

As for the game making part of the company, today is the day we're finally able to reveal DRAWN TO DEATH, the game we've been making with the fantastic crew at Sony San Diego!

And if I may, before I jump into details, I gotta say: MAN it feels great to be back with my Sony family!!!

I remember sitting in Scott Rhode's office 18 months ago, pitching him the game and trying to be cool and pro and not express my excitement when it started to become clear that Scott was going to give Drawn To Death the go ahead and that PlayStation 4 would be the home of the studio's first...

Defiant Development Reveals Hand of Fate Coming to PS4, PS Vita

Defiant Development Reveals Hand of Fate Coming to PS4, PS Vita 50°
49w ago - Defiant Development Associate Producer Kim Allom revealed today that Hand of Fate is coming to PS4 and PS Vita platforms with details below.

To quote: Salutation, PlayStation! The team members at Defiant Development are thrilled to announce that our Kickstarter-funded, tabletop roguelike deck builder, Hand of Fate, will be coming to PS4 and PS Vita.

For those of you who haven't heard of Hand of Fate, it's a roguelike that blends tabletop card gaming and video game magic. Inspired by tarot and fantasy, all bets are off as you create your own journey by building a collection of cards used to deal out a boardgame-like dungeon teeming with enemies, treasure, and adventure. Upon entering combat, the cards come to life as the player is propelled into a beautiful 3D environment to brawl it out with foes. Draw your cards, play your hand, and discover your fate.

Being a roguelike, Hand of Fate's strength is its nearly endless combination of cards and ways to play. The deck builder lets you determine a mix of combat, chance, and equipment cards for your deck before you set out on your quest. Equipment selection ramps up replayability as the player is introduced to a slew of artifacts, weapons, and armor that modify gameplay. The player has the freedom to choose their cards, but how and when they...

Video: Road Not Taken on PlayStation 4: Hand-crafted Randomness

Video: Road Not Taken on PlayStation 4: Hand-crafted Randomness 50°
51w ago - Spry Fox CEO David Edery posted up a video today detailing the hand-crafted randomness in Road Not Taken on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: In previous blog posts, we've talked about the procedural system we use to create the enchanted forests that serve as your proving ground in Road Not Taken.

This system is what makes Road Not Taken a fun game to play repeatedly, and - as with any good roguelike - you'll need to play Road Not Taken many times before you've stumbled upon every interesting object and creature lurking in the forest.

But a purely random system, even a very rich one, can start to feel repetitive over time. Every snowflake might be unique, but after you've looked at a thousand snowflakes it's easy to stop appreciating them!

Our roguelike developer ancestors have invented a few solutions to this problem, one of which is to change the look and feel of the environment to signal when something new/important/dangerous is happening.Sewers transition into dungeons, dungeons become underground caverns, etc.

And in Road Not Taken, peaceful glades might lead to blizzard-ravaged woods, haunted groves, and dangerous ice caverns! The changing terrain is both a marker of your progress as well as a warning of new challenges to come.

Another classic...
