Rage to Require 8GB Mandatory PlayStation 3 HDD Installation 550°
August 18, 2011 // 11:03 pm - Today Dutch site PSFocus.nl (linked above) reports that the upcoming PlayStation 3 title Rage will require an 8GB mandatory PS3 HDD installation.

The XBox 360 will also offer an optional HDD install of 21-22GB in size, and the game is scheduled for release to both platforms on October 4 in North America and October 7, 2011 in Europe.

New Wave4 XBox 360 Disc Sizes Require Firmware Update 200°
October 15, 2009 // 7:12 pm - It appears Microsoft is now including the most recent major Dashboard Update on new game discs, specifically the Summer/Fall 09 update that brings the NXE dash to 8498.

Why do some PS3 games require HDD installs? 550°
April 2, 2008 // 5:02 pm - MTV have found out that some Blu-ray games require installs to the hard drive because Blu-ray drives can only read at one speed.

"When this is combined with the extremely large size of Blu-ray discs, and simply dumping existing DVD data onto a Blu-ray disc will inevitably result in longer load times."
