Start-Up Caustic Graphics Inc. Promises More Game Realism 100°
March 9, 2009 // 5:30 pm - A start-up founded by former Apple Inc. engineers said it has developed technology that could bring film-like realism to computer games and change the way movie makers and other design professionals work.

The San Francisco company, Caustic Graphics Inc., plans to exploit a technique called ray-tracing that generates extremely accurate three-dimensional images. Ray-tracing is a mainstay of Hollywood studios, but remains out of reach for most PC users. A single image can take hours to generate; rendering a film can take months on hundreds of server systems.

Final Fantasy XIII Countdown Promises a New Vision for PS3 350°
January 21, 2009 // 10:06 pm - The official European Final Fantasy XIII Web site (linked above) now features a ticking clock which promises to end on January 28th at 4pm GMT. What happens then? Apparently "a new vision will soon be revealed to the world."

I just got an email from Square Enix. The email contains something new about Final Fantasy 13. If you click the link HERE you can see the counter.

America also has its own countdown page. Square Enix says it's "the first of many countdowns to come."

New Wireless 60 GHz Standard Promises Ultra-Fast Applications 50°

A recent decision by an international standards group could help bring this technology to market soon.

Fullspeed Dreamcast Emulation on PSP Possible, No Promises 50°
August 4, 2008 // 3:38 am - Drk||Raziel, developer of Dreamcast emulator NullDC, has issued a clarification statement in regards to the recently unveiled PSP port.

First off, he notes that due to RAM constraints, the PSP port of NullDC will be compatible with Slim units, which house 64MB RAM compared to 32MB on the previous hardware revision.

Furthermore, the author explicitly mentions that he is not making any promises concerning the speed of the emulator, only that he will attempt to get it running as fast as possible.

Certainly, we're excited over the prospect of Dreamcast...

Shane Kim Promises More New IP for the 360 50°
August 1, 2008 // 3:28 pm - So far this generation, Microsoft's lineup of exclusives has done a pretty good job! Gears of War, Project Gotham Racing 3, Halo 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, Forza 2, Ninja Gaiden 2...all big sellers, all great games.

Thing is, aside from Gears, those are all sequels! And Microsoft's two biggest games in 2008 are more sequels, one for Gears, one for Fable. Perhaps sensing an impending onset of acute sequelitis, Microsoft's Shane Kim wants you to know that new stuff is on the way:

Microsoft: Sony has failed to deliver on promises 50°
May 9, 2008 // 5:46 pm - Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg says "the days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over," that the company has failed to deliver on numerous promises, and challenges Sony's latest European PS3 sales figures.

"We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market," Greenberg told Destructoid. "Three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out...
