PS3 Firmware 2.30 Update Now Available! 1000°
April 15, 2008 // 3:26 pm - Update: Several users are reporting that they are now unable to sign in anymore with PS3 Proxy, receiving error 8002A212.

Additionally, the only changes in 2.30 per Sony are a Redesigned PLAYSTATIONŽStore, Blu-ray Disc playback now supports DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio output- noting the PS3 system does not support playback of DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video or DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs.

Confirmed: Home is not part of PS3 Firmware 2.30 update 50°
April 14, 2008 // 1:47 pm - According to a Sony rep, PS3 Firmware 2.30 (that will accompany the launch of the new PlayStation Store) will not contain PlayStation Home despite what rumors suggest.

To quote: Noel Silvia replied on April 14, 2008 at 12:27 pm

Despite what some rumour mongers would like for you to believe, no, Home is NOT a part of this update.

Revamped PlayStation Store Demoed, New Firmware April 15 200°
April 10, 2008 // 1:48 pm - Sony have released a video demonstrating the newly redesigned PlayStation Store, set to launch later this month.

The clean new look certainly makes the store easier to navigate, and the ability to watch video previews of PSN titles straight from within the store is icing on the cake.

In other PS3 related news, the upcoming 2.30 firmware will feature support for DTS-HD Master Audio. The update is due out on April 15 worldwide.

PS3 Debug/TEST Flash Dumped!! 550°
April 9, 2008 // 8:01 pm - Earlier last week, one of the PS3 Devs sent his PS3 Debug/TEST unit off to another resident Dev (who also successfully did a PS3 Retail Flash dump early last year) to have the PS3 Flash dumped.

Well, it has been done! In an amazing feat taking all of 10 minutes, Courier pulled the two PS3 NAND Flash chips from the PS3 TEST and dumped them. Nothing like a hot air rework station in the hands of a professional!

So, the PS3 TEST Flash has been dumped! We also had a chance to do a preliminary analysis on it...

Microsoft releases X-Box 360 HD DVD Firmware Update 100°
April 8, 2008 // 4:44 pm - In a surprising move, Microsoft has released a new Firmware Update for the X-Box 360 HD DVD player, which will automatically download the next time users watch an HD DVD movie.

The new update includes "compatibility improvements" for specific HD DVD titles as well as "additional support for network features," according to a post by X-Box Live's Larry Hryb in his official blog.

The update is widely expected to be the last Firmware Update for any HD DVD player. In fact, it comes as quite a surprise that an update was released at all, as Microsoft officially disowned...

Future PS3 Firmware to Support Managed Copy 400°
April 8, 2008 // 1:39 pm - We know that a future PlayStation 3 firmware update will enable Portable Copy, a feature that will allow users to copy a downsampled version of certain Blu-ray titles over to their PSP for portable viewing.

But in a recent interview with Japanese site Impress Watch, Sony engineers revealed that an upcoming firmware update will also bring support for Managed Copy.

With Managed Copy, PS3 owners will be able to pop-in a Blu-ray disc and legally rip it straight to their PS3's hard drive. Additionally, future updates are expected to bring 1080 deinterlacing and DTS-HD MA...

PSP Firmware 3.95 includes Customizable Controls for PSOne Titles 200°

April 6, 2008 // 4:23 pm - Red Squirrel has updated M33xEver again today, a Custom Firmware plug-in that allows PSP users to permanently activate the M33 anniversary Easter egg featured in 3.90 M33-3.

With the release of version 3, users can now use the plug-in to increase or decrease the speed of XMB waves, as well as change the Firmware version and MAC address visible in System Information.

Changes are made in RAM and will stay as long as the plug-in is activated.
