According to NPD, the PlayStation 3 console moved 305k units in June, up from 165k units in June of 2009.

To quote: "PS3 inventory issues have been resolved and June 2010 marks the 11th consecutive month of year on year growth for the platform," the company said in a statement.

"Video games are fueling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today's numbers are a testament to the big impact we'll play this holiday," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.

BBC iPlayer 3 is Coming to Sony's PlayStation 3 Console This Year

244w ago - The BBC iPlayer has been available on Sony's PlayStation 3 console for quite some time, however, according to the BBC's Simon Cross the BBC iPlayer 3 will be coming to the PS3 entertainment system this year.

According to TechRadar, a new version of the catch-up TV service known as the iPlayer 3 will arrive as soon as technical issues with the sign-in process are resolved.

To quote: "Cross also noted that new functionality would be appearing on the application, including a For You section which would consist of shows you may be interested in.

There will also be more social network functionality, although it was unclear whether the Facebook and Twitter integration would make the move to the PS3.

The biggest problem the BBC is trying to overcome is signing into the app and how the BBC is going to implement this.

"We don't know whether to integrate it with the PSN signing in process or do something new," Cross explained."

GDC Rumor: LittleBigPlanet 2 (LBP2) Will Hit PS3 This Year

260w ago - Straight from GDC 2010, rumor has it Sony is set to release LittleBigPlanet 2 (LBP2) for PS3 this year.

To quote from VG247.com (linked above): "Whether the LittleBigPlanet product's disc-based or a download is unknown as yet, but our source was cast iron on a 2010 ship.

Sony's holding a press conference in GDC's locality this week, but we have no idea if anything from Media Molecule's to be included.

A second game in the series would signal a major change in tack."

It was announced last week that Sony has fully bought the studio.

LittleBigPlanet is a platform game featuring a little sack character and a suite of user-used development tools. It was released in 2008.

It was confirmed in November last year that more than 1.3 million gamer-generated levels had been created for LBP, and last week that more than 2 million have been made to date.

Naughty Dog Wishes PS3 Fans a Very Happy New Year 2010

269w ago - This weekend Naughty Dog's Senior Manager of Marketing Communications Arne Meyer has sent Happy New Year 2010 wishes to PS3 fans.

To quote: All of us at Naughty Dog wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year!

2009 has been both incredibly busy AND amazing year for us on all counts. We started the year off working hard on UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves and we had no idea what was going to be in store for us and for our fans as the year progressed.

We had our heads down for most of the year making sure we put together an awesome game that we think you would like, but when E3 came around, we took a moment to stop and realize that things were really coming together as UNCHARTED 2 picked up over 20 awards when all was said and done.

It's safe to say we were stoked to get this recognition and it made us kick things up a notch over the next several months as we were putting the finishing touches on our game. When we released UNCHARTED 2 in October to critical acclaim, we were looking forward to hearing what all of our fans thought on NaughtyDog.com, the PlayStation forums, Twitter and anywhere else on the Internet you discussed our game.

Now, we're wrapping up the year watching our game win Game of the Year...

Uncharted 2 Takes Game of the Year at VGAs, Evan Wells Chats

250°
271w ago - Today Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells has shared his experience from this year's VGAs, where Uncharted 2 for PS3 won Game of the Year, as follows:

So the SPIKE TV Video Game Awards were this Saturday, and in case you hadn't heard, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves walked away with Game of the Year!

It's a huge honor and the team is still basking in the glow of that moment. While it's still fresh in my mind, I wanted to share a little behind the scenes recap of how it all went down.

I arrived at the show with Christophe, Amy and Bruce and we walked the red carpet, which was a pretty cool way to start the evening off. There were tons of media lined up with cameras and microphones ready for interviews. We stopped for a few interviews and Christophe even played a game of Wii Resort Table Tennis against one of our interviewers (he let her win... so he says).

Continuing down the carpet, we ran into a bunch of people arriving at the same time as us like Marty O'Donnell from Bungie (who walked away with the award for Best Score for Halo: ODST... congrats!), our friends from Infinity...
