PlayStation 3 Sales Jump Over 1000% on PS3 Slim Release 550°
September 7, 2009 // 4:13 pm - Chart-Track has told (linked above) that sales of the PlayStation 3 have jumped over 999% in the past week, shifting eleven times the number of units sold the prior week.

As Sony introduced the new, slimmer SKU, and although Chart-Track does not reveal actual sales numbers, Dorian Bloch, director of the firm called the growth "a huge increase".

To quote: "The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent," revealed Bloch. "We don't give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it's a very large increase."

PS3 Slim Taiwanese Commemorative Launch Sets Unveiled 100°
September 2, 2009 // 1:20 am - Kotaku (linked above) has revealed that some lucky Taiwanese people who purchased a PlayStation 3 Slim at launch received a unique bonus- commemorative launch sets.

Apparently Sony Taiwan gave away 150 of these special commemorative launch sets (pictured below) to 150 individuals who bought the PS3 Slim at launch.

PS3 Firmware Update 3.0: Speed Test, PS3 Slim Fix & Extras 550°
September 1, 2009 // 1:54 am - Even with the PS3 Firmware 3.0 official full changelog available, it appears there are some previously unmentioned extras surfacing in the update.

To begin, PSInsider (linked above) reports that an integrated connection speed test is now included... as pictured below.

To quote: "The first I noticed is a speedtest in the connection test. So next time you turn on your ps3, you can find what your ps3 is pulling down, and the upload speed too."

Videos: PS3 Slim is Slower Than the Original PlayStation 3? 750°
August 30, 2009 // 12:10 am - As previously reported, we know that the the PlayStation 3 Slim uses half the power of its 'Fat' counterpart.

Now reports are coming out of the popular Japanese blog Ore-teki (linked above) that the PS3 Slim may actually be slower than its bulky predecessor.

Of course these differences may be caused by differences in harddrive, but in this case the maker of the video claims the same 7200RPM HDD is installed in each... which leaves room for firmware/hardware variations...

PS3 Slim Uses Half the Power of 'Fat' PlayStation 3 Console 400°
August 29, 2009 // 5:36 pm - The PS3 Slim was reported as running on 34% less power than the previous 'fat' PlayStation 3 model, however, that figure is inaccurate.

CNET's Crave (linked above) decided not to take Sony's press releases at their word, and instead plugged a Slim into machines to test its actual power output. And their findings are a little surprising!

The Slim uses a lot less power than Sony have given it credit for. In standby mode, it's around 70% more efficient, while playing...
