Video: Sony PlayStation: 15 Years In The Making 400°
234w ago - Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Rey Gutierrez has shared a video today as part of their celebration dubbed Sony PlayStation: 15 Years In The Making.

To quote: Today we celebrate 15 Years of PlayStation, the gaming industry and most importantly, the PlayStation fan. It is an honor to officially kick off our celebration on the PlayStation.Blog with a retrospective journey and history lesson 15 years in the making.

The PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable, the PlayStation 3 – these aren't just names to Sony gaming products – these are milestones in every gamers' coming of age story.

Twisted Metal, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Killzone and God of War, aren't just clever titles to PlayStation classics – but defining moments in gaming history where PlayStation stands above the rest, delivering memorable experiences and jaw-dropping moments.

Sitting at PlayStation and being part of this amazing journey as a gamer and now working with the PlayStation team, I can't help but recollect my first encounter with Metal Gear Solid.

Within moments of popping in my PlayStation Underground disc, and booting the MGS demo – I knew right there and then what I wanted to do with my life....

PS2PSXe Preview - Homebrew PS1 Emulator for PS2 is Released 500°
238w ago - While it's been awhile since we've reported on any PS2 news, today ffgriever has proved once again that the PlayStation 2 is not dead yet with his PS2PSXe Preview release - a homebrew PS1 Emulator for Sony's PS2 console!

According to the author, PS2PSXe should be able to run PS1 images from all devices (CD/DVD, HOST/LAN, HDD) on the PlayStation 2.

To quote: "Public PS2PSXe preview. Only command line version attached. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get current sources to work properly (I'm halfway with some major changes and it will take awhile to complete them). The one attached you can consider as "the last one that actually works", or simply rev168.

The emu supports both PAL and NTSC display, but I REALLY RECOMMEND leaving the default PAL output. Why? Well, it's the only mode I use. Many fixes were made to make PAL games show less glitches in PAL mode... When you switch the display to NTSC it most often will show more glitches.

The PAL scph7200 bios is recommended to run games. PAL games are recommended due to two simple reasons:

1. PAL games require...

Video: Project to Run PS1/PS2 Back-ups on PS3 with a Mod-Chip

Video: Project to Run PS1/PS2 Back-ups on PS3 with a Mod-Chip 1150°
242w ago - The DemonHades Spanish PS3 Development team has been working on a project which aims to utilize a mod-chip to run PS1 and PS2 back-ups on a PS3 console without opening it or using switches and have posted up a concept video today.

According to one individual with a highly questionable reputation, this concept project could work because PS1/PS2 discs are authenticated only once on the VSH though liblv2 and the PIC chip would just automate it.

However, if Sony updates liblv2.sprx and more specifically ps1rom.bin so the emulated mechacon is updated it could be patchable.

Finally, to roughly translate from the video's caption:

"This video montage shows the operation of the chip that we are developing to load copies of PS1 and PS2 (if you're retro) in the PS3.

This video shows how to...

Video: Kermit ODEM DBGCORE v0.4 BETA for PS2 Arrives 250°
248w ago - Recently SilverBull of AssemblerGames.com (linked above) has released his Kermit ODEM (Optical Drive EMulation) DBGCORE v0.4 BETA for PS2 alongside some videos by leonardoliveira of it in action, which appears similar to the elusive PS2 SuperBender but based on reverse-engineering of the PlayStation 2 HD Loader software.

Kermit aims to deliver PC-assisted real time debugging facilities similar to what is offered by the DTL-T10000 kit (Playstation 2 TOOL) but on a retail PS2 console.

Kermit has partial DECI2 support and this feature is still being worked on. Expect more mesmerizing features to come.

All debug, disassembly, cheat-engine, memory dumping, PC communication features are achieved by the install of the resident kernel module called DBGCore which hooks/patches into the existing PS2 OS kernel. Kermit communicates with the PC through either full duplex EE-SIO (Mr.Brown's EE-SIO cable) or through iLINK (IEE 1394).

With IEE 1394...

Sony's PlayStation 2 Gaming Console Sells One Million in 2010

Sony's PlayStation 2 Gaming Console Sells One Million in 2010 300°
250w ago - A few days back we reported on both PS3 and PSP sales data, and today Sony has revealed that it has sold one million PS2 gaming consoles in 2010 thus far.

In addition to being crowned as the best selling gaming console of all time, it appears as though the PlayStation 2 still have some life left in it indeed.

The PlayStation 2 has officially broke into its first 1,000,000 units for 2010!

To quote: "This feat was accomplished weeks before we reached the halfway point in the year, meaning the PS2 has potential to sell around 3,000,000 to 3,500,000 units by the end of the year due to the holiday season.

Analysts have predicted that the PS2 will soon reach a ground-breaking 150,000,000 total units.

This is just under 50,000,000 more units than its predecessor, the PlayStation (PSOne) and a goal that Kaz Hirai (President & CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment) set for the PlayStation 3 a few years ago."
