SCE's MacDonald: Video Game Courses are a Waste of Time 100°
August 25, 2008 // 8:55 pm - The UK's daily mail is relighting the fire once again with a report that computer game degrees are useless, with employers arguing that they do not equip students with the basic maths, art and animation skills needed for a career in the business.

Jamie MacDonald, the vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe, said: 'I can't remember the last time I employed someone from them.'

To quote: But Skillset, the body that represents the 'creative media' industry, has only approved four courses as fully meeting employers' needs.

Basilisk II PSP v1.1.1 68k Macintosh Emulator released! 50°
July 31, 2008 // 6:47 pm - Chilly Willy has released an update to the initial PSP port of Basilisk II, a 68k Macintosh emulator supporting OS 7.01 through 8.1.

Now at version 1.1.1, Basilisk II features a new and optimized underlying code-base, giving a six percent increase in emulation speed.

Additionally, 4.01 M33 compatible IR keyboard drivers are now pre-included and two new 16:9 video output modes have been added for LCD/HDTV owners.

Kojima: PS3 is a Monster Machine 400°
July 23, 2008 // 4:43 am - In a recent interview with the BBC's Click program, Hideo Kojima, creator of the acclaimed Metal Gear franchise, has revealed that the first few years of development on MGS4 were "trial and error".

Based on the Basilisk II JIT project, this PSP port features use of UAE CPU emulation, along with new SoftFloat FPU emulation for increased compatibility.

Virgin platform for BBC iPlayer 50°
May 1, 2008 // 3:26 am - The BBC has signed a deal with internet and phone provider Virgin Media to make its iPlayer service available on TV. Virgin Media customers will be able to catch up on the past week's programmes without the need for downloading.
