Microsoft abuses 360 failure victims more than new customers 100°
April 6, 2008 // 3:53 am - Microsoft has kept a relatively low profile on the Xbox 360 front since last summer when it began "rewarding" victims of the disturbingly frequent "red ring of death" failures, excluding the rather underhanded way Microsoft surreptitiously slid the whole Xbox Live outage ordeal that occurred in the months of December and January under the table.

Though free Xbox Live games and embelished warranty extensions might seem like acceptable penances to most people, Microsoft is doing whatever it can to alienate its quickly diminishing number of loyal 360 owners with underhanded business...

Microsoft Never Really Wanted HD-DVD to Succeed 50°
April 6, 2008 // 3:53 am - When Microsoft first announced their intentions to back the underdog HD DVD format as the high definition format of the future, many insiders and press alike questioned the motives of the large software company.

Microsoft doesn't own any film content to distribute and the one product which could have benefited from a larger capacity disc - the Xbox 360 - had already shipped with only DVD support. Most soon realized that Microsoft never wanted HD DVD to succeed, only to stall adoption of Blu-ray long enough for digital downloads to become a reality.

This, of course, was...

Some ISPs tracking every click you make 50°
April 6, 2008 // 2:23 am - The online behavior of a small but growing number of computer users in the United States is monitored by their Internet service providers, who have access to every click and keystroke that comes down the line.

The companies harvest the stream of data for clues to a person's interests, making money from advertisers who use the information to target their online pitches.

The practice represents a significant expansion in the ability to track a household's Web use because it taps into Internet connections, and critics liken it to a phone company listening in on conversations....

The end of Vista? 350°
April 6, 2008 // 2:20 am - The blows just keep on coming for Vista. It started with an extension of the life of XP and has continued with Microsoft's recent announcement that Windows XP's life will once again be extended, this time for two years and for ULC (ultra-low-cost) PCs, such as the Eee PC.

As if that wasn't enough, Bill Gates has also come out and said that the next version of Windows, Windows 7, is coming "sometime" next year. Considering that Vista hasn't even been on the market for two years yet, the fact that XP is still so popular and Microsoft is already talking about the release...

Microsoft Losing its Way on Desktop, Apple Good to Go! 50°
April 1, 2008 // 10:31 pm - Based on comments from Redmond executives, Microsoft's vision for the next generation desktop seems to be losing focus compared to Apple, according to David Morgenstern at ZDNet on Tuesday.

Recent presentations from Microsoft strategists have focused on the Surface input technology and software as a service (SaS). The problem is that neither of these pie-in-the-sky approaches remotely address the needs of users.

Microsoft's new approach vaguely reminiscent of the days when Mark Andreessen said that Netscape is the OS, no need for Windows. Microsoft may now believe that...
