Resistance 2 Demo Coming on Sony PlayStation Day!

50°
356w ago - An Insomniac Games employee, jstevenson, has written in the NeoGAF boards and confirmed that a Resistance 2 demo will be present during the Sony PlayStation day on May 6, a few days from now.

It is likely that impressions will leak out of the press-only event, and we'll make sure to post them when they appear.

To quote: We pull ourselves away from Grand Theft Auto IV long enough to record this 25th episode of the Full Moon Show. We bring you the latest info on Resistance 2 and our demo in Europe next week.

We also reveal more about our 8-player online co-op in our I Want Your Job interview with Jake Biegel. Former 1UP Network Editorial Director Dan "Shoe" Hsu joins us in the mystery guest segment, and we'll bring you the latest contest from Marcus. Plus Rolf's Rant and more!

Siren New Translation Demo Impressions

50°
357w ago - A while back, we broke the news to you that there will be a new Siren game coming for the Playstation 3, however, what was more interesting was the fact that Japanese Game Magazine Famitsu stated that the game could be released as soon as this summer with a demo planned for the end of April. Well, the demo certainly did arrive, and I had the pleasure to downloading it to give it a quick test drive.

Siren New Translation is a remake of the original game from back in 2003 for the Playstation 2. Now with the added power of the Playstation 3, Sony's Japan Studio can make the game they originally wanted to do back in 2003.

The first thing you will notice is that while the subtitles and tips that pops up on the screen are in Japanese, the voice acting is all in English, which makes understanding the game a whole lot easier for those of us who are not fluent in Japanese. You start as a character known as Sam Monroe. All you have on you is a flashlight, and by god, you need that flashlight.

The start of the demo is very, very dark. The only thing you can see is what your flashlight is glazing over. This sets the mood as very tense and creepy, and the excellent music playing really adds to the already creepy atmosphere. I then set off to look for the rest of the crew, and as I walked up the steps,...

PSP and PS3 EchoChrome demos available tomorrow!

50°
357w ago - To quote from the official PlayStation Blog: My name is Kumi Yuasa and I am the Associate Producer for the upcoming PSN game EchoChrome.

This is my first post on the blog, and I'm excited that my debut here on the blog is to announce that free PS3 and PSP EchoChrome demos will be available for download tomorrow on the PlayStation Store on the PS3. The PSP demo version will also be available for download on the PlayStation Store for PC.

Perhaps you have read about EchoChrome... There is a lot of excitement for it - N'Gai Croal of Level Up even wrote, "...as of last E3, the 2008 game we've been looking forward to the most is EchoChrome."

It's a fun and addictive puzzle game with really elegant and simple graphics. The concept is inspired by the famous MC Escher artwork, which explores infinity, architecture and impossible constructions. In EchoChrome, you control the camera and perspective on an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway, allowing your character to walk safely through the design. Puzzled?!? Check out the video above and you'll see what I mean!

There is no single way to get through a level in EchoChrome. You and your friends...

358w ago - Ubisoft today announced the imminent release of a fully playable demo for Haze, the new first-person shooter set in a harsh future where war is never quite what it seems.

Coming exclusively to the PLAYSTATION Network in early May, this playable demo will give gamers a taste of not only the single-player campaign in Haze, but will also allow up to four-player, drop-in drop-out co-op play online.

Developed by shooter experts Free Radical, creators of the critically acclaimed TimeSplitters series, Haze is scheduled for release exclusively on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system on May 20th 2008.

Are Game Demos Bad For Business?

50°
359w ago - According to a study conducted by the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research Group, the best-selling titles on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were not released alongside a playable demo.

Discussed at last week's MI6 game marketing conference, the study suggests that publishers should release only trailers for upcoming titles.

Researchers of the study, Gregory Short and Geoffery Zatkin, concluded that if publishers must release a demo, they should begin producing the demo after the game's release, so as to avoid interruptions with the development of the final product.

Well, this study would certainly be more interesting if the actual games included in it were shown. If the overall tally includes games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, then it all makes perfect sense.
