Teens kill 7-year-old girl by using Mortal Kombat moves 350°
December 20, 2007 // 1:41 pm - In Jamestown, Colorado, two teens have been charged with killing a 7-year-old girl by beating her with imitations of moves from the Mortal Kombat video games, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16, were charged as adults on one count each of felony child abuse causing death, according to court documents obtained be the Associated Press.

A police affidavit states that the teens were babysitting Trujillo's half-sister, Zoe Garcia, on December 6. When the teens hit, kicked, and body-slammed her with moves imitating Mortal Kombat, the girl lost...

Holiday Folklore Expansion 50°
December 19, 2007 // 9:04 pm - Eric Fong, Folklore Associate Producer, announced on the official PlayStation Blog that a holiday-themed expansion pack will be available this week for download from the PlayStation Network. That may sound quite appealing, but the news gets even better: the pack is free!

Downloading the expansion will get you two new costumes for Ellen and Keats, both of which are intensely spirited to say the least. Keats will also have a new quest to participate in which has been titled "Holy Night Visitor." To top things off, a new Folk can also be collected. Known as "Grab Bag," this rather...

Mobile retro gaming with the Space Invaders keychain 50°
December 19, 2007 // 8:57 pm - If you're old enough to recall feverishly shovelling handfuls of pocket change into ever-willing coin-op arcade machines (perhaps you're sporting one or two grey hairs about the temples), then this little handy tool of distraction is likely to pull mightily on your memories as well as your purse strings.

There are scant few arcade games scattered throughout gaming history that can truly rival the likes of Taito's classic Space Invaders, which pitted players against a never-ending horde of advancing aliens while arming them a puny spaceship lacking in shielding and equipped with...

NPD Fallout: Rock Band Proves its Worth 50°
December 19, 2007 // 8:42 pm - Over 350,000 copies at $170 a pop is impressive, but critical mistakes cost them more.

No one expected Rock Band to outsell Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock this holiday season. Guitar Hero is one of the most powerful franchises in gaming right now -- period. In fact, if Rock Band sold at all it'd be a triumphant feat for the new music IP, Harmonix and MTV.
Only the hardcore are even aware Harmonix was behind Rock Band (and once Guitar Hero), so while their involvement was encouraging, it was hardly relevant to the end game. And while the $170 price tag is actually cheap given...

Monster Madness: EX Breakdown 50°
December 19, 2007 // 8:42 pm - You know, we're pretty lucky at IGN. Sure, we get to play videogames all day, go to crazy events and travel the world, but we also get the inside dirt on games long before they go public. Even the smallest detail helps keep us sane and happy.

Of course, you don't get these details all the time. That's why you have a tendency to go off the deep end and type so fast that "the" becomes "teh." -- but that's not going to happen today. We have inside info for you to share.

That's right, the team behind Monster Madness: EX -- a SouthPeak Interactive title that has you taking...

Creative Minds: Todd Hollenshead 50°
December 19, 2007 // 1:46 pm - There's no doubt about it; id Software has been responsible for helping shape the games industry into what it is today. Without Doom, Quake and John Carmack's coding wizardry, you can bet we'd be playing very different games today. Who knows, the Russians might've even won the Cold War?

Doom has stuck in the minds of a generation of gamers, while Enemy Territory rocks the online charts and Quake III Arena is still played (mainly by us) after almost ten years on the shelves.

Meanwhile the next shooter from the FPS juggernaut, Rage, is exciting enough on its own. But behind...

FlatOut PSP - looking good 50°
December 19, 2007 // 1:46 pm - Two things stand out in the FlatOut series - insane amounts of destruction and the rag-doll mini games, and these screens show both of those in full effect on the PSP sequel, FlatOut Head On.

It's no wonder it looks good - it's one of the few games lining up to take full advantage of the increased processing power of the PSP running in the new 333Mhz setting (which God of War will also use when it hits the portable).

The finished game promises "nine different game modes, including carnage challenges, full career, destruction derbies, multiplayer party mode and the bone-crunching...

Warhawk Importers Shafted on Downloadable Content? 50°
December 19, 2007 // 1:34 pm - Many Europeans were impatient and imported Warhawk from the US. In fact my brother picked up Warhawk from the US and it works perfectly on my PAL Playstation 3, but we might now be shafted with region coding.

In a reply to the question "Will the downloadable content be region coded?"on the Official Playstation Blog, Dylan Jobe of Incognito responded with:

More or less's not based on hardware region code, but based on the region where you purchased the game Warhawk. USA, Europe, Japan, etc.

This presumably means that Warhawk importers need to...
