Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is a Flop at the Box Office

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is a Flop at the Box Office 250°
313w ago - It's official: "Street Fighter: the Legend of Chun-Li" is a flop. Even given a perfunctory release on 1,136 theaters, its estimated weekend gross of $4.65 million and per screen average of $4,093 is lame, albeit not disastrous.

Box Office Mojo has a useful chart of video game-to-movie adaptations, on which "Chun-Li" comes in no. 23 of 28. Amongst the movies that beat it: Uwe Boll's "In the Name of the King," "Alone in the Dark," and "House of the Dead"; "Wing Commander" in 1999; and "The Wizard" in 1989 (yes, folks, that's in non-inflation adjusted dollars).

And, yes indeed, it came in well behind the 1994 Jean Claude Van Damme "Street Fighter" classic, which bowed to $6.6 million.

Keep in mind, however, that a weak performance in the U.S. doesn't necessarily mean "Legend of Chun-Li" is a big money loser for financiers Capcom and Hyde Park.

For a movie like this, domestic release is basically a tool to support the places where it really makes money: Overseas (especially Asia) and DVD. With a budget I've heard estimated at around $30 million, the movie could still end up doing OK, even if not many people in the U.S. actually want to go to a movie theater and pay $10 to see it.

Given the bad reviews, soft opening, and the genre, it's pretty reasonable to expect this...

PlayStation Home Warhawk Space, Street Fighter IV Virtual Items 50°
314w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star announced that the Warhawk Game Space will hit PSN tomorrow along with some new Street Fighter IV virtual items as follows:

As you may or may not know, Warhawk is getting its own game space in PlayStation Home on Thursday, February 26th.

This space is a great example of the next level in Home's development - boasting serious interactive features from tactical furniture to game launching.

So on opening day we're inviting you all out to the new space to meet new people, strategize your next attack (using the interactive sand table), launch into the game, and commence the carnage.

This event will run from dawn to dawn, so when you get out of work, class, or a well-deserved nap be sure to log in and meet up with old clan members and new teammates alike.

You might even see me in there kicking some Eucadian butt (or Chernovan, depending on my mood). Look for a video walkthrough of the Warhawk Command Center with Dylan Jobe tomorrow morning!

If you were not yet aware, Capcom's newly-released Street Fighter IV is tightly integrated with Home, offering unlockable virtual items when users perform certain actions in the game. To help you keep up with the Joneses, we'll be dropping some hot...

Can Kristin Kreuk Liven Up Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li?

Can Kristin Kreuk Liven Up Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li? 50°
314w ago - Can the beautiful Kristin Kreuk live up to the Legend of Chun Li?

She certainly doesn't have Chun Li's thighs, but Kristin's other attributes make up for that.

We are hoping that Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li is at least a good movie.

Check out both a Kristin Kreuk interview and trailer along with the evolution of Chun Li videos below.

Enjoy!

Capcom Delays Street Fighter IV on PC Due to Piracy Concerns

Capcom Delays Street Fighter IV on PC Due to Piracy Concerns 400°
315w ago - While the PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers were enjoying the long awaited release of Street Fighter IV, the PC gaming community fell victim to Capcom's anti-piracy strategy.

Capcom believes they can reduce piracy on the PC by releasing the PC version of the game months after the console. This policy has failed as it would seem.

Entering "Street Fighter IV" into a torrent search engine results in numerous images of the 360's Street Fighter IV disc with thousands of downloads already completed. To add insult to injury, some of these copies went up online before the game's launch date!

Even though the anti-piracy tactic has failed, it seems like PC gamers must endure the wait a little while longer. If Best Buy's Pre Order page is correct that wait ends May 15th. For Capcom's sake they better hope that the hype of the game lasts till that point.

I for one am interested. I wonder if they high piracy rate of the XBox 360 version of the game will result in a change in Capcom's policy on piracy? It should be obvious to them now that their piracy concerns should extend beyond the PC versions of their games.

Beyond all the piracy the game seem to be selling very well. On the first day of its release it was sold out in Japan. In the USA the Collectors edition of the game was...
