SEGA signs ex-Clover Devs 50°
May 15, 2008 // 10:20 pm - Sega will release four games as part of a partnership with Japanese developer Platinum Games, founded by Resi creator Shinji Mikami and other ex-Clover big wigs.

One game for PS3 and 360, titled Bayonetta, stars a girl lead character with guns strapped to her feet, and is being directed by the Devil May Cry creator, Hideki Kamiya.

A short trailer (which we'll attach to this report shortly) shown at Sega's unveiling event in London lacked any gameplay footage, but it did show the female lead flip out and fire bullets into the faces of her foes. It was all...

SEGA Dreamcast: Ahead of its Time 100°
April 27, 2008 // 6:28 pm - In March 2001 the dream was over. A little more than eighteen months after its European launch, Sega discontinued its final console and retreated from the gaming hardware wars for good. Despite a strong launch and a line-up of great and innovative games, the Dreamcast couldn't stand up to the onslaught of Sony's all-powerful PlayStation 2. A project that had started out with high hopes and a real vision for the future of gaming now felt like another console failure.

Look at the numbers, and that verdict still stands. Dreamcast never achieved the sales or won the third-party software...

Sega's Viking gruesomely addictive 250°
March 29, 2008 // 1:22 am - Chris Kohler over at Wired reports: For a game that doesn't do any one thing particularly well, why is Viking: Battle For Asgard so much fun?

Put simply, it's because the developers of this Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game understand what turns a player into an addict. Viking's medieval sword-and-axe combat is merely alright, the visuals won't wow you, and the story is barely there. But the game's gradually expanding world ramps up perfectly, constantly teasing you with one more goal just out of reach, then another, then another.

Next thing you know, it's three in...

Leaked Screenshots & Video Expose SEGA's Sonic Unleashed! 50°
March 23, 2008 // 2:37 am - Recently a group of forum posters uncovered a bunch of unreleased media (more screenshots at the link above) relating to the recently trademarked "Sonic Unleashed" via SEGA's FTP server.

While official details are non-existent at this point, it's believed that Sonic Unleashed will retain the gameplay mechanics of classic Sonic titles with a combination of 2D/3D graphics (aka 2.5D) ala Sonic Rivals, only without the racing sequences.

SEGA has yet to comment on the validity of...
