Microsoft's Deal with Square Prevents a US Demo of FFXIII? 550°
April 9, 2009 // 9:22 pm - Well, it looks like Microsoft has struck again! This time it has affected the playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII that was supposed to be in the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Blu-ray release due out in June 7th, 2009.

The Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has the playable demo, obviously because Final fantasy XIII is an exclusive title in Japan and the deal that Microsoft has struck with Square Enix has slowed up the development of the game in general, which is the obvious reason for the game not even being out in Japan yet.

However, this has...

April 7, 2009 // 7:46 pm - SCEA hardware marketing head John Koller has claimed that Sony's first-party development division is as big as that employed by Nintendo and Microsoft. In total.

"Our development studios - the Worldwide Studios team - is as large as Microsoft and Nintendo's combined," he said, talking at GDC.

Koller said that Sony's first-party roster for the coming years would feature a mix of fresh ideas and surefire successes.

Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's XBox 720 to be Shaped by the Wii? 550°
April 5, 2009 // 11:29 pm - In the dark days of the GameCube, amidst Internet rumblings of Nintendo going third-party, a little white box was being secretly developed in the inner sanctums of Nintendo.

Having already launched the strange yet undeniably appealing DS, this new console had a working codename of Revolution.

Nintendo dropped that moniker for the more market-friendly and more perverse title of the Nintendo Wii. Revolutions were scary they said, revolutions were about bloodshed, terrorist organizations and babies crying. Nintendo just wanted everyone to play.

Sony's PS3 is Catching Up, is Microsoft's XBox 360 in Trouble? 650°
March 26, 2009 // 11:39 pm - Sony's catching up, and it's only a matter of time until both consoles are battling for what really matters, and what should still really matter in the gaming world - games.

It's lately been about who's got the best online, but those will be almost identical sooner or later and it will be back to the basics.

Sony started off the PS3's life with some okay games, a lackluster online service and little to no DLC to extend the lifetime of their games. 2008 came along, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of the Patriots, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift were...

Internet Explorer 8's Poor Reception Not a Good Sign for Microsoft 250°
March 23, 2009 // 10:01 pm - The honeymoon appears to be over for Internet Explorer 8 - and it wasn't much of a honeymoon to begin with, either. Just days after the browser's big debut, its market share has fallen a full 28 percent from its peak.

Alternative browsers, meanwhile, have held steady ground, losing no significant number of users to Microsoft's new offering.

To quote: IE 8 managed to break the 2 percent mark within a day of its release last Thursday, according to tracking data by analytics firm Net Applications. It grew slowly over the weekend, topping out at 2.59 percent of the overall...
