Review: Argon 2 Fourth Generation Chip for the Nintendo Wii 50°
February 1, 2009 // 12:11 am - Recently Team InFeCtuS has launched their new 4th Generation Mod-chip for the Nintendo Wii console.

The Argon 2 is both updatable via Internet and solderless, and also capable of running Wii homebrew software available at www.ArgonChannel.com.

Today we review the Argon 2 drive enhancement chip for the Wii.

I will start with my first impression of the chip itself. In size it is just a fraction larger that the infectus chip, which is not bad at all considering it has an integrated official wiiclip built in.

For some time, we have been talking about the PlayStation 3 BiOS, and up to date there is no public info about the IC which does this job and the way it stores the information.

PS3 Cell Chip Designer Felt 'Contaminated' by Microsoft's XBox 50°
December 31, 2008 // 10:00 pm - A new book from the designer of the heart of Sony's PS3 - the Cell processor - reveals how Sony inadvertently worked with Microsoft on games consoles.

The book, The Race for a New Game Machine, details how Sony, working with Toshiba and IBM to produce the powerful processor found itself in bed with arch-gaming rival Microsoft due to business alliances.

New Nintendo Wii Drive Revision Blocks Current Wii Mod-chips 50°
December 8, 2008 // 9:43 pm - The Internet is buzzing with multiple reports that there is a new Nintendo Wii revision which blocks all current Wii mod-chips.

Apparently, the drive controller chip has been completely removed and Nintendo has combined the older D1A and driver controller chip into one which is called the GC2-D3.

Therefore, a big space has been left on the motherboard (pictured below) where it used to sit. More pictures and analysis is available at CNGBA (linked above), and to quote via rough translation:

Leadtek to Launch PlayStation 3 Graphics Chip for PCs 100°
November 12, 2008 // 9:18 pm - Leadtek has announced that it will start selling its first PC graphics card based on Toshiba's SpursEngine graphics co-processor next week.

The SpursEngine is based on the same architecture as the CELL that powers the PlayStation 3 and was partly developed by Toshiba.
