Video: PAIN: The People's MODE for PlayStation 3

Video: PAIN: The People's MODE for PlayStation 3 250°
299w ago - SCEA Sr. Producer Travis Williams has posted a new video today on the PlayStation Blog showcasing PAIN: The People's MODE for Sony's PlayStation 3.

To quote: If you have been keeping up with our PlayStation Network game PAIN lately you would realize we just released SORE SPOTS. This particular release has been good for us in that we really got to address some core improvements to PAIN as a whole as well as create a multiplayer mode filled with player suggestions we have had for a while now.

Some of the improvements to PAIN include:

Revamped Menus
We've added so much content that the old menus just were not working for us anymore.

PS3 Trophy lists inside modes
Players hated leaving modes to figure out how to get all the trophies. So now you can see those requirements inside the mode you are playing.

PAINalympics!
It's a good exercise to browse our message boards and pick out some of the wackiest ideas we have gotten from the community. I remember one player wanted a mode where you could see how long you can go without touching the ground.

Another player wanted to swing and kick people... I could go on for...

299w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared the second in their "Virtual Booth Tour" series, namely MAG for PS3.

To quote: You've probably seen some quick demonstrations of MAG, but that's not enough time to do this complex game justice. In this video, Zipper Interactive designer Ben Jones takes us through the flow of a massive 256-player battle.

Apologies for the audio pops - it was quite loud on the show floor!

We'll have more video booth tours coming this week!

Gran Turismo PlayStation Home Space Plus Features Detailed

Gran Turismo PlayStation Home Space Plus Features Detailed 250°
299w ago - Details have surfaced on a new PlayStation Home space for the long-awaited racer Gran Turismo 5.

Similar to EA's Sports Complex in Home, this space will offer a racing minigame and include a special interaction with Gran Turismo 5.

Apparently users will win Home items and accessories depending on how and with what you win races in the actual game.

To quote: Everyone loves EA's Sports Complex and the mini games, especially the mini racing game right? Well you're gonna love GT5 Home Space.

From what I hear the Home space is gonna have a similar feature as EA's mini race car game. A cool feature for any GT5 racing fan.

This Home space will also have some sort of connection with the game as far as whatever achievement you do in the game will have an effect in the Home space.

Lets say you purchase items in the game like a corvette or a viper, then you go into Home and you receive a statue of a corvette or a viper that you put in you Home apartment for decoration and the same thing in Home. You purchase a clothing article or something in Home and you receive something in the game.

This is cool and genius. Both GT5 game and Home Space will...

PlayStation Eye More Precise Than Microsoft's Project Natal?

PlayStation Eye More Precise Than Microsoft's Project Natal? 500°
299w ago - No doubt the major talk of E3 2009 was all about the motion-sensing technologies demoed by Sony and Microsoft at their press conferences.

Microsoft's Project Natal's major selling point is full-body recognition and the promise of a controller-less game experience, while Sony's PlayStation Eye-powered motion tech aims to turn a single controller into any virtual item imaginable (i.e. swords, tennis racquets, whips, whiskey bottle, etc.).

To quote: Sony's director of marketing John Holler told Gamasutra that the PlayStation Eye is "more accurate and more precise" than Microsoft's motion-sensing tech, and, even though Project Natal's full-body scanning capabilities is "impressive," it also, allegedly, suffers from "depth issues on the Z-axis."

This assessment is obviously impossible to confirm until some impartial testing can be done, so we'll just have to take Holler's comments with a PS3-emblazoned grain of salt for now.

What's perhaps more interesting about this whole ridiculously premature debate about technologies that are still years away from landing in living rooms is that Project Natal certainly does seem designed to out-casual the casual gaming genre Nintendo ushered...
