357w ago - Today we received word from the guys over at www.XCM.cc that they made a few videos demonstrating the XFPS Rapid Fire functionality.

You simply need to switch on the Turbo Keys and to obtain Rapid Fire. Yes, your UNFAIR ADVANTAGE to rule the game.

Also, XPFS 3.0 Sniper Plus allows you to remap any buttons from your controller to the keyboard. You can make a key to execute a custom-made set of commands. It's simple to do, and you then have the ideal keyboard for games!

Has COD4 ruined the FPS genre?

358w ago - Pop Quiz: What should you do if you make a game that breaks records and sets the bar so high that it will take another entire development cycle for game-makers to catch up?

If you're Activision's marketing director David Tyler, you brag your ass off. Speaking of the enormous success of Call of Duty 4, Tyler spoke to trade magazine MCV, including some words that were probably not too well-received at EA or Ubisoft.

"We're pleased to have Call of Duty 4 leading the way in the FPS genre, with recent launches such as Army of Two and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 failing to inspire," said Tyler.

This is one of those statements you just want to sling a wet banana at, and I would if it weren't so laden with truth, that the Vatican was having it carved into the Sistine Chapel.

While I have marched a little ways into the R6V2 campaign, I can't help but cast a longing glance at my worn-out CoD 4 case. Call of Duty 4 just might have ruined shooters for me for a long time.

Is that a good thing?

I guess it might be, meaning that the gameplay experience that Infinity Ward delivered, literally shattered everything else ever made in its genre, and probably several others. At the same time, I have no doubt that, had there never been a Call of Duty 4, I might...

Ubisoft says there's no money in hardcore FPS games

362w ago - Ubisoft will begin to distance itself from hardcore shooters from this point forward because it no longer sees the genre as a moneymaker.

Is this the future of Ubisoft?

Ubisoft game designer Phil Therien said his company would limit the amount of development time given to hardcore FPS games in the future because they no longer make enough money to be a viable business practice.

This isn't to say Ubisoft will completely eliminate the genre from its portfolio, but Therien did admit that the market for shooters was "too narrow" to pursue as vehemently as it had been in the past.

Therein made the admonition during a LiveText Interview with Eurogamer.net late last week. He said Ubisoft would like to be able to please both sides but "compromises have to be made" (he possibly meant hardcore and their cousins the "casual gamers," but this isn't made clear in the interview).

"We have some ideas to improve on the situation though - keep in mind however that we want our games to be accessible to as many people as possible, otherwise we just couldn't keep making games," he said.

The remarks aren't a total surprise coming from Ubisoft. Keep in mind that 2006-2007 were banner years for the developer thanks in part to the success of its software on the Wii.
