Rumor: PS3 Ad Hoc Party Coming As Early As Next Week?

Rumor: PS3 Ad Hoc Party Coming As Early As Next Week? 200°
288w ago - Japanese PlayStation 3 owners have been enjoying Ad Hoc Party for nearly a year now, but when will it hit North America... Possibly next week?

That's when fighting game Fate/Unlimited Codes releases for the PlayStation Portable, according to the official PlayStation.blog.

To quote: Fate/Unlimited Codes is one of the games that uses Ad Hoc Party for its online multiplayer in Japan, turning the PlayStation 3 into a multiplayer server for PSP games without an infrastructure mode built-in, so one might think it will do the same in America.

That game's trailer promises that PSP owners can "play online with Ad Hoc mode."

Sony Computer Entertainment recently trademarked Ad Hoc Party in the United States, a good indicator that it plans to introduce it to North American PS3 owners.

Granted, the trailer for Fate/Unlimited Codes may be out of date and we wouldn't leave it up to the publisher of that game, Capcom, to determine the launch date of a Sony product.

We were told at E3 this year that Ad Hoc Party support in the West was "in the works," but weren't given a release window.

Rumor: Inside Source Claims PS3 & PSP Price Cut in Early June

Rumor: Inside Source Claims PS3 & PSP Price Cut in Early June 400°
306w ago - According to an internal 'proven' source of French Web site PS3Gen.fr, it's been unofficially confirmed that both the PS3 and PSP will receive price drops in early June.

This would obviously correspond with E3, which is scheduled to run between June 2 and June 4.

To quote: Although the source didn't reveal the new price for the PS3, it did provide the new price point for the handheld: 169 Euros, down from 189.

Of course, even if accurate, this information may only apply to the European/PAL regions, but we find it hard to believe that Sony wouldn't have this pair of price cuts spread worldwide. Additionally, the mystery source confirmed the existence of the much-rumored PSP 2, which should be available for the end of the year.

We've already received many pieces of evidence for a new PSP model; either the PSP-4000 or a PSP 2, and that includes the theory that it will be designed to compete with the iPhone. It sounds plausible, but with nothing concrete to solidify the claims, we still can't call it anything but "rumor and speculation."

And if you don't already know, Sony's business policy has always been the same: they simply don't comment on rumor and speculation.

Sony: PlayStation 3 is Still in the Early Adopter Phase

Sony: PlayStation 3 is Still in the Early Adopter Phase 200°
320w ago - The PlayStation 3 is "still in its early adopter phase", Sony has claimed, despite the console being out for over two years.

Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra, John Koller, director of hardware marketing at SCEA, said that the kind of person who was interested in the PS3 was "tech-oriented" and that for them, the console's main appeal was its "multi-functionality".

Sony's PS3 has come under fire from a number of analysts in recent months, many of whom have pointed towards its high price as explanation of its current third place sales position behind the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360.

Sony, for its part, has continued to resist calls for a price cut, pointing towards the PS3's high-value as a Blu-ray player and powerful games machine.

What do you think about Koller's comments on PS3? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Sony: PlayStation Home Was Probably Announced Too Early

Sony: PlayStation Home Was Probably Announced Too Early 200°
321w ago - When asked about the reception Home has had amongst developers, game director Peter Edward admitted to DevelopMag that the social networking service was unveiled a little too soon.

To quote: "Initially, there was real excitement from people, because we were showing something really different and that had a lot of potential. And then there's the realization that, well, we probably announced it too early - GDC 07 was a long time ago. I think there was sort of recognition amongst developers of 'Oh, this is interesting, but there's still a lot of work to be done.'"

That attitude is changing though, according to Edward. "It's mature and everybody's starting to produce some really interesting stuff. As soon as developers start seeing what other people have done, it really starts to build on the excitement."

Hopefully most will agree with Edward - the wait for Home was simply too long. Would our opinions have been different if the wait was shorter? Hopefully, as time goes on, the service will evolve into something that both gamers and developers can get really excited about.
