Eight Days Looked Insanely Good, So Why Was It Cancelled? 100°
November 16, 2008 // 10:21 pm - Eight Days is cancelled. We know that. However, before it's cancellation, we've barley seen any footage on the game, leaving a lot of us wondering what it would have been like.

Jim Jagger, 3D animator for the game, has released a demo reel containing footage of Eight Days, and boy did it look good.

There's some footage of EyePet and Looney Toons in there, but most of it consists of Eight Days gameplay footage.

The cover manuvers looked fantastic and I could not see exactly why SCEE would...

Speculation: PS4 could be Based on Cell Architecture 550°
September 30, 2008 // 6:22 pm - Some interestng speculation on ps3fanboy about the potential target date of the PS4 and cell processing. To quote:

Perhaps the PS3 was a bit too ahead of its time. The console was almost absurdly expensive when it launched -- and not just for consumers. In spite of an initial $600 price tag, Sony lost hundreds of dollars on every system manufactured.

The combination of Blu-ray drive and Cell processor made the PS3 a bit too bleeding edge, perhaps. A report from respectable Japanese site PC Watch suggests...

Cell Processor to Shrink, Size and Price of PS3 to Follow? 250°
September 22, 2008 // 8:15 pm - A 45 nanometer cell processor was first realized earlier this year, and Sony plans to include it in the PlayStation 3 sometime during 2009.

Well, how does this affect you? By creating a smaller chip, Sony circumvents some costs associated with creating the Cell, and a cheaper production price equates to more leeway for a potential PS3 price cut.

Additionally, by reducing the size of the chip from 65nm to 45nm, power consumption decreases by approximately 40%. When less power is consumed, less heat is generated, and a slimmer console -- like the slimline PS2 -- suddenly...

Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty Blu-ray Cancelled in UK 100°
September 12, 2008 // 6:39 am - Update: The Blu-ray will still be released in other European countries, but not the United Kingdom. Additionally, Insomniac Games' Community Manager James Stevenson has provided a reason at games forum NeoGAF.

"It's partially due to broadband penetration being strong in the UK, therefore it wasn't seen as needed". He also mentions that Ireland will receive Blu-ray copies at retail, if you're really craving for a hard copy.

A Sony Europe representative confirmed to

Rumor: Heavenly Sword 2 cancelled for PS3 50°
June 17, 2008 // 5:21 pm - According to an "inside UK source" via Kotaku, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe has cancelled Heavenly Sword 2.

The game had been in development for a few months, but Sony has apparently decided that it is no longer commercially viable.

To quote: On a side note, Ninja Theory, who have already said they weren't working on the sequel to their PlayStation 3 exclusive, have grown increasingly bitter about their treatment at Sony's hands, our source tells us.

I'm told that the development studio, which once had offices in the same building as Sony Cambridge...

CELL-Based SuperComputer Breaks Record 200°
June 9, 2008 // 1:06 am - An American military supercomputer, assembled from components originally designed for video game machines, has reached a long-sought-after computing milestone by processing more than 1.026 quadrillion calculations per second.

To put the performance of the machine in perspective, Thomas D'Agostino, the administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, said that if all six billion people on earth used hand calculators and performed calculations 24 hours a day and seven days a week, it would take them 46 years to do what the Roadrunner can in one day.

Katamari for the Nintendo Wii is Cancelled 50°
May 21, 2008 // 2:44 am - Just got an email from Wally World (aka Wal-Mart) and Beautiful Katamari Wii has been cancelled. Blast! I was kind of looking forward to this game, but after numerous delays, the game has been cancelled.

It was interesting since Nintendo nor Namco Bandai had any information about Beautiful Katamari Wii.

At least Wal-Mart let me down easy with a "maybe this game will be available at a future date" sort of thing.

But if you're still holding out, you can still pre-order it from Target. :P
