Video: Cancelled PS3 Exclusive FPS 'Redwood Falls' Footage

50°
314w ago - Redwood Falls was a zombie shooter first announced way back in 2006, exclusive to Sony's PS3 console.

Late last year, the title was put on indefinite hold by developer Kuju Entertainment, citing a lack of funds to continue the project.

Redwood Falls separated itself with it's gruesome damage system, allowing players to shoot or cut off pieces of flesh to get to the zombies vital organs.

The video shown was from early in development, when the title was still set to be multiplatform. It sets the mood of the game, going from a creepy forest to a desolate pier.

Things heat up, showing some of the game's combat mechanics against some sort of massive creature. Redwood Falls definitely seems to have been influenced by John Carpenter's The Thing, both in terms of the isolated atmosphere and the appearance of the creatures.

In any case, Redwood Falls looks really impressive, and it makes you wonder how games like this get canned while games like Shell Shock 2 make it all the way to the market.

Video: Helghast in HD - Killzone 2 for PlayStation 3 Ads Hit TV

314w ago - VP of Product Marketing Scott Steinberg has announced that Killzone 2 ads are making their way to both TV and PSN later today as follows:

I am confident this game will inspire many of you who've been waiting for the right time to buy a PS3. It is a true testament to what "Only on PlayStation" means.

We're excited the promise of Killzone 2 has been realized and has exceeded expectations due to the tireless efforts and dedication of Guerrilla Games. I can't thank the development team enough for remaining true to the vision and producing one of the most impressive games in recent memory - on any platform. The pre-order numbers only reinforce your great enthusiasm for the game and we're pleased the game reviews show the same.

A group of us flew out to meet with the development team in late 2008 for a product meeting - we had an idea for a fresh way to promote the game. It was to bring the incredible detail in Killzone 2 to life by showcasing the game's technology - only made possible by the power of the PS3.

The idea for the commercial centered on telling the story of war on Helghan - up close and very personal and to use the game's engine to show it. No voodoo,...

BFG is Preparing a Passive 9800 GT PC Video Card

50°
314w ago - Here is an interesting listing of BFG 9800 GT card... It would be quite normal if the card isn't passively cooled. As far as we know, this is the only card from BFG that has a passive heatsink, at least in last few graphics card generations.

The new card is simply dubbed BFG Geforce 9800GT 512MB GDDR3 and it works at reference 600MHz for the core, has 112 stream processors with a shader clock set at 1,500MHz.

As you could tell from the name of this card, it has 512MB of GDDR3 memory which is clocked at 1,800MHz.

While the memory isn't cooled, the GPU has a small block that is connected to a large heatsink located on the back of the card via four heatpipes.

The rest of the card is pretty much plain as it uses green PCB based on Nvidia's reference design. The card isn't listed at BFG's site, but we guess it would be launched soon.

So if you are shopping for a passive cooled 9800 GT card, you can find BFG's 9800 GT listed at Newegg for US $159.99. or here for US $158.98.

Video: Go Inside the Street Fighter IV Launch for PS3!

314w ago - Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein shared a video today via PS Blog of the Street Fighter IV launch for Sony's PlayStation 3 console. To quote:

To celebrate the 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) coming of the Street Fighter legacy, Capcom threw a giant launch party a few days ago in downtown Los Angeles. Many of you attended, some were rebuffed by the LA fire marshal, but all that made it in had a great time.

When I first arrived, Capcom Community Guy and Street Fighter Legend Seth Killian offered up a tour. I rolled video so you could see what went down inside:

More pics of the event here. Thanks Justin M!

Gushing fanboy time: my personal highlights were getting my phone engraved, meeting Cmdr. Geordi La Forge, and getting my butt handed to me by Destructoid's Nick Chester 3 matches in a row.

Again, it was great meeting those who got in, and I extend my personal apologies for those invitees turned away due to overcapacity.
