PS Vita 4G Patent Surfaces, Rumors of Firmware Update & Price Cut 500°
107w ago - Following up on Sony's previous announcement, today rumors of a PlayStation Vita 4G design, PS Vita Firmware update and price cut have surfaced from PatentBolt.com (linked above).

Below are the details, as follows: "On February 7, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Sony that is technically about the PlayStation Vita and their new and upcoming connectors.

Sony states that the connectors are for "connecting the electronic apparatus to peripheral apparatuses" at the bottom and side surfaces of the device housing. Sony's patent filing specifically states that the next generation PS Vita will gain USB, HDMI and a power supply connector described as a parallelepiped connector.

New Ports Coming to Sony's PS Vita

As shown in Sony's patent FIG. 2, the electronic apparatus 1 in this example includes connectors 23, 24, 25, 39, and 59 as the plural electronic components. The connector 23 is, for example, a headphone jack.

The connectors 24, 25, and 39 are connectors such as a USB connector or an HDMI connector for transmitting and receiving data between the electronic apparatus 1 and other electronic apparatuses....

PS4 / PlayStation 4 (Orbis) Rumored to Cost 40,000 Yen, 2013 Release

PS4 / PlayStation 4 (Orbis) Rumored to Cost 40,000 Yen, 2013 Release 1050°
108w ago - Following up on the previous Sony PlayStation 4 rumors, today a well-known Japanese newspaper is reporting that the PS4 (Orbis) is rumored to cost 40,000 Yen (around $430 / £300) and arrive in Japan and North America this year alongside some additional rumors from Nikkei below.

To quote from GamingEverything.com (linked above): "The publication writes today that the PS4 will feature Gaikai cloud tech and will offer special social elements in which you can discuss things with friends while playing games.

Asahi, a well-known newspaper in Japan, is reporting that the next PlayStation will cost more than 40,000 yen. The publication also adds to previous speculation that the console will be made available this year in North America and Japan.

40,000 yen may not mean much to consumers overseas. Converting between currencies, that would be about $428 in USD and roughly 317 Euros.

Two things to keep in mind: 1) Asahi says Sony’s new home console will cost more than 40,000 yen and 2) prices tend to see adjustments in different territories...

Rumor: PS3 to Get Google Chrome Web Browser Soon?

Rumor: PS3 to Get Google Chrome Web Browser Soon? 550°
203w ago - Update: VGN365.com has now clarified that the ChromeClientPOSIX discovery was referring to the browser chrome not 'Google Chrome' the Web browser, and concludes that Google Chrome is not likely coming to the PS3 entertainment system after all.

According to Dutch site PS3Life.nl (linked above), Sony's PS3 entertainment system may soon be getting the popular Google Chrome Web browser despite Google responding that they have nothing to announce at this time.

Additionally, a job listing implies that Sony is indeed hiring a developer to work with Google Chrome's Engine.

To quote, roughly translated: Sony has a Webkit source for their PS3 Web browser and can be found here (with a test page now added here).

Here you can see several things that Sony has updated on March 31 for pilot testing. A forum user NeoGaf the forum was, incidentally, to the bored and a look in the ps3-webkit-support.diff...

EA and Sony Deny PS3 Cross-Game Voice Chat Rumors

EA and Sony Deny PS3 Cross-Game Voice Chat Rumors 300°
288w ago - Today Kotaku (linked above) followed up on yesterday's rumor from N4G insider Super_Secret on why Cross-Game Chat is currently missing in action on the PlayStation 3 console.

To quote: Rather than jump to conclusions, we decided to contact the two parties involved for comment on the situation.

First to respond was Jeff Brown, EA's vice president of corporate communication.

"Not no-how, not no-way did that ever happen. This is a total fabrication - total nonsense. We think voice chat is an extremely cool feature and added it to Madden/ PS3."

Brown then added, "We support cross-game voice on other systems and would be happy to do that on any console."

Soon after Brown responded to our inquiry, Sony's senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold also responded, keeping things short and sweet. "This is rumor and frankly not true."

Another corporate cover-up like the PS3 Slim's existance, or is the rumor officially debunked now? Feel free to comment below!

Sony CEO Howard Stringer Scoffs at PS3 Price Cut Rumors

Sony CEO Howard Stringer Scoffs at PS3 Price Cut Rumors 250°
295w ago - Despite top industry sources reporting that a PS3 price drop is coming, Sony's CEO Howard Stringer continues to brush brushed off concerns that the PlayStation 3 video game console is too expensive.

To quote: Stringer described recent comments about PlayStation's price by Robert Kotick, the CEO of video game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc, as standard business tactics.

"He likes to make a lot of noise," Stringer said, when asked about the comments. "He's putting pressure on me and I'm putting pressure on him. That's the nature of business."

Last month, Kotick told the Times of London that Activision might cease developing games for the PlayStation if Sony did not cut the price of the console, which competes with Microsoft Corp's Xbox and Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii.

"When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console," Kotick had said.

Asked about the logic of not cutting prices, Stringer said, "I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make - how's that for logic."
