April 8, 2008 // 2:25 pm - Toshiba today announced the start of sample shipping of the SpursEngine SE1000, a high-performance stream processor integrating four Synergistic Processing Element (SPE) cores derived from the "Cell Broadband Engine" (Cell/B.E.).

The SpursEngine is a co-processor that integrates a hardware codec for Full HD encoding and decoding of MPEG-2 and H.264 streams. Service now open to N81 multimedia phone owners 50°
February 6, 2008 // 3:43 pm - After delays, Nokia has begun to roll-out its N-Gage gaming service and its media sharing site.

The company twice delayed N-Gage's launch last year due to unexpected software difficulties.

The service has now been opened to owners of Nokia's N81 multimedia phones around the world, with the company asking for feedback before opening the service to a wider audience.

October 19, 2007 // 2:40 pm - A British intelligence agency has targeted a new generation of recruits by advertising in computer games.

The Cheltenham-based surveillance service GCHQ hopes to attract the attention of 'tech-savvy' gamers.

Adverts featuring the GCHQ website are on billboards within Xbox 360 games such as Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

GCHQ said it hoped the campaign would "capture the imagination of people with a particular interest in IT".

Official: Sony sells PS3's Cell to Toshiba 50°

An anonymous Sony official has "confirmed" to Japan's Nikkei that they will sell their advanced computer chip operations to Toshiba in an effort to re-focus on core business. The official announcement is expected later today.
