Image & Form Games: SteamWorld Dig Coming to PS4, PS Vita in 2014

Image & Form Games: SteamWorld Dig Coming to PS4, PS Vita in 2014 50°
54w ago - Image & Form Games CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson announced today that SteamWorld Dig is coming to PS4 and PS Vita in 2014.

Below are the details, to quote: Hi everyone, thrilled to be here - finally! I'm Brjann Sigurgeirsson, the worst-named CEO of the worst-named game development studio in the world, Image & Form Games.

I'm here to present perhaps the world's worst-named game: SteamWorld Dig. It launches on PS4 and PS Vita this year. Don't let the title fool you - the game is great!

Image & Form is a Swedish game developer based in rainy, windy Gothenburg. There's a dozen of us, and the rest of the lot is a bunch of brilliant, hard-working, and quite childish people.

I also work hard and am rather childish myself, but instead of being brilliant all the time I focus on hogging credit and interacting with you guys. You can read more about all of us right here.

Take the role of Rusty - a lone, mining steambot - as he arrives to an old mining town in great need. Dig your way through the old earth, gaining riches while uncovering the ancient threat that lurks below.

SteamWorld Dig is what we call "a mining platform adventure." The objective is mining, the controls are those of a platformer, and it's a story-driven game with a defined beginning and end....

Invizimals Coming to PS3 and PS Vita Platforms in North America 50°
55w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment America Associate Product Marketing Manager Derek Osgood announced today that Invizimals is coming to PS3 and PS Vita platforms in North America.

To quote: Hi PlayStation fans, we have some exciting news to share with you today! The popular creature hunting franchise, Invizimals, is returning to PlayStation this year in the Americas.

The franchise began as a series of innovative PSP titles in which players hunted down and battled elusive Invizimals using the PSP camera. Today, we're happy to confirm that Invizimals: The Alliance and Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom will be coming to PS Vita and PS3 (respectively) later this year.

Invizimals: The Alliance is the next step in the evolution from the PSP games to the PS Vita. Players will hunt, capture, and battle creatures in order to save the Invizimals from the evil Xtractor Industries robots which have invaded their world.

Invizimals: The Alliance brings next-gen AR gaming to your fingertips with new Markerless AR technology and a variety of capture mini-games using the PS Vita controls. You'll have hours of fun trying to track them all down and battling your friends in the all-new 4-player battle system.

Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom is the first foray onto PS3 for the Invizimals in...

PS4 Mod with 2 TB External SSHD Drive, Better / Cooler Performance

PS4 Mod with 2 TB External SSHD Drive, Better / Cooler Performance 550°
59w ago - Following up on How to Swap In / Upgrade a PS4 HDD, today Paul Statham (aka Placebo) shared how to modify the PS4 to run with a 2 TB External SSHD drive, which he claims boosts better and cooler performance.

To quote: "Paul Statham, who also happens to be Community and PR Manager at ARMA III Developer Bohemia Interactive, is one of those gamers, and decided that the tiny 500 GB 2.5″ HDD provided with the PS4 wasn’t enough for his taste, so he set out to replace it with a massive 3.5″ 2 TB Solid State Hybrid drive.

You’re probably asking yourself: “How the hell did he fit that in the console? It’s too big.” And in fact he didn’t. He purchased a few spare parts and actually mounted the drive externally, thanks to creativity and a bit of technical knowledge.

Modifying the console like that has a few advantages: first of all 3.5″ drives have a cheaper cost per gigabyte than 2.5″ ones, and the SSHD offered also provides better performance.

The issue is that the internal...

PS Plus: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Free for Members 50°
62w ago - Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer announced that Sonic & All-Stars Racing will be transformed free for PS Plus members as part of this weeks updates below.

To quote: This week, PlayStation Plus members can take to an ever-changing race track when Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed enters the Instant Game Collection.

The 'transformed' part references the fact that your go kart isn't always cemented to the pavement - if your route should all of a sudden require your little kart to, say, fly, it will. Yep, your vehicle is constantly morphing back and forth between kart, plane and boat, so you'll have to master each type if you want to win.

You can download Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and take advantage of all these PS Plus discounts after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow, 12/24.

Sony on PS4's Noise Level, Power Consumption & Media Performance 200°
75w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.

Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site AV Watch.

Here's a summary of the most relevant points:

  • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
  • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...
