Sony Japan is Seeking 'New Game Hardware' Testers

Sony Japan is Seeking 'New Game Hardware' Testers 50°
315w ago - A job listing has appeared on the Sony Computer Entertainment Web site, looking for individuals to test "new model game hardware."

The Sony job listing says, "Experience an in-development game console (hardware) early!"

To quote: Job duties include checking on, reporting on and giving input for a in-development game hardware. The listing's Q&A reads: "This is specifically for a new model and unannounced game hardware for PS3, PS2, PSP and its peripherals."

Note: In the original Japanese text, Sony separates those hardware platforms with commas only (there's not an "and), making it somewhat vague whether this is new hardware for each or all three.

This is a full time position. It starts this March and looks to run a year. There's a one month trail period, after which those awarded the position can look to make over „1,000 (US $10.70) per hour. Travel expenses are covered, and there's the possibility for a raise. This position is in Tokyo and is not open to students.

This very public job listing might get more fuel to those very persistent PSP2 rumors. Though, it also might simply be more a continuation of the current PSP and PS3 hardware iterations: slimmer with more memory.

Privacy Law Call in Social Networking Site Facebook Row

Privacy Law Call in Social Networking Site Facebook Row 50°
315w ago - The row over Facebook's change in its terms of service governing users personal data highlights the need for a privacy law, claims a leading watchdog.

To quote: The Electronic Privacy Information Centre was on the brink of filing a legal complaint when Facebook announced it would revert to its old policy.

The new terms seemingly gave Facebook vast control over users' content.

"This row underlines the need for comprehensive privacy laws," said Epic's president Marc Rotenberg.

"It is great that Facebook has responded by going back to its old terms of service. That is a step in the right direction, but these issues don't go away.

"It's going to be an ongoing concern for users until we get privacy laws in place," Mr Rotenberg told the BBC.

Epic, along with 12 other consumer and civil liberty groups, were intending to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission about the policy changes when it was stopped in its tracks.

"We got a call late last night from Facebook and they said that they were thinking of going back to their original terms of service," said Mr Rotenberg.

"We said that if they would agree to do that, we wouldn't see the need to file the complaint."

In a blog post, Facebook founder Mark...

Is Microsoft's XBox 360 Making Fewer Waves in the Industry?

Is Microsoft's XBox 360 Making Fewer Waves in the Industry? 100°
316w ago - In a follow-up to an article published earlier today, it seems that Microsoft has taken a back seat in making 'waves' in the gaming industry... most of which are PS3 exclusives as of late.

Now before the XBox 360 fanboys out there chew up this article and spit it out, hear me out... Earlier in the life cycle of the XBox 360, there were games released that were praised and adored for the technology and visuals they brought to gaming, one of which was 'Gears of War', this highly intense Third Person shooter was epic in every sense of the word, no pun intended.

'Gears of War' was THE game to own an XBox 360 for, with XBox 360 owners using it as a tool for arguments against PS3 users, who argued their system was more "powerful".

Everything from the games' graphics to it's cover-centric gameplay was brilliant, and indeed one of the many reasons the original 'Gears of War' was hyped for, was it's visuals. However after the release of the sequel, 'Gears of War 2', which saw noticeable visual improvements to the first, the XBox 360 has wittered out of the race to console visual superiority.

What am I saying? well if you take a look at the main set of upcoming games for the PlayStation...
