Games for Windows Live Now Free 250°
July 22, 2008 // 11:04 pm - Effective immediately, Microsoft has dropped the regular subscription-based Gold plan on its Games for Windows Live service, allowing PC gamers to play titles under the GFWL banner online with others completely free of charge.

The move includes titles that support cross-platform gameplay between the PC and Xbox 360, such as Lost Planet: Colonies and Universe at War.

Additionally, Microsoft plans to introduce a completely new marketplace interface for GFWL this fall, featuring a variety of both paid and free content, ranging from playable demos to downloadable content...

July 7, 2008 // 10:27 pm - Manufacturers plan to give away their games for free. The scheme was revealed by one of the industry's leading entrepreneurs, Lisburn-born David Perry. His best-known creations include Enter the Matrix, Earthworm Jim and Messiah.

For a limited time only, those who purchase an annual subscription ($24.99) to the online-based magazine can download David Jaffe's debut PSN title Calling All Cars completely free of charge. That's a $10 dollar value.

Nexon's Free-to-Play Online Shooter Combat Arms Explored 50°
May 22, 2008 // 8:40 pm - The realm of online first-person shooters isn't exactly sparsely populated. Since last fall we've been given Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament 3 and Call of Duty 4, to name a few, all of which featured excellent online competitive modes.

Final Haze Resolution Confirmed by Free Radical 250°
May 19, 2008 // 6:15 pm - There has been much debate over the actual resolution for Haze, especially because some hands-on experiences with the demo have been in contrast to the previously reported 720p resolution. Well, Ripten confirmed this once and for all with Free Radical's Derek Littlewood, creative lead for the upcoming PS3 FPS.

Littlewood said the final product will "indeed render at 1024x576," which is a different story than what Ubisoft recently said on the official PlayStation blog. Thing is, Haze will run at 720p because the PS3 is capable of upscaling, but this is not the same as the game's...
