GDC '09: Bungie Still Working on Halo 3 XBox 360 Content

GDC '09: Bungie Still Working on Halo 3 XBox 360 Content 200°
310w ago - At the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, Bungie producer Allen Murray gave a talk about the studio's production process, which has gone through a major evolution of late.

Formerly a one-project shop, Bungie has changed its approach to facilitate the development of multiple projects simultaneously. That's good news for gamers.

We've known for some time that Bungie is working on an entirely new intellectual property, and Murray noted that a development team is hard at work on that project. But that doesn't mean Bungie plans to close the book on Halo 3 after the ODST expansion ships this summer.

According to Murray, the studio just finished a crunch - a short period of intense production to meet a development milestone - on ODST and another project, which he didn't name.

He could have been referring to the Mythic Map Pack, which was bundled with the Halo Wars Limited Edition in early March and will be distributed over Xbox Live on April 9. Or he could have been hinting that there's another expansion, multiplayer pack or surprise on the way.

"Halo 3 took two and a half years to make, and we're still working on it," Murray said. "We'll probably be working on it for two more years."

Videos: Shocking New inFamous PlayStation 3 Trailers Available

Videos: Shocking New inFamous PlayStation 3 Trailers Available 100°
311w ago - inFamous is due out in around three months and we still haven't seen that much of it yet. These videos seek to change that by showing around eleven minutes of gameplay montage footage.

To quote: It's looking good, if a bit samey. The platforming sections look like they're a lot of fun, though the combat seems like it could get a bit repetitive.

We guess that'll depend on the full scope of Cole's powers. We suspect that the game's writing and story will make or break the experience.

Rant: Microsoft Should Stop Talking About the PlayStation 3

Rant: Microsoft Should Stop Talking About the PlayStation 3 400°
311w ago - We are well aware that when companies are in direct competition with one another (at least, in terms of one specific division), it's perfectly normal to expect each side to take potshots at the other.

In fact, it's even expected. But we've noticed a trend in the past year or so, and we can't decide if it's due to fear on Microsoft's part, or just an unprofessional approach.

Xbox 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg had a lot to say recently, and too much of it revolved around the competition. We have to wonder if Gamasutra specifically asked him about Sony and the PlayStation 3, or if he just decided to lash out on his own.

We're not going to quibble when it comes to statistics; he's certainly not making them up, and it's true that the 360 outperformed the PS3 in February. However, he also clearly hints at the "fact" that Killzone 2 didn't have any effect; that it didn't prove to be the system seller everyone thought it would be. ...well, there's a serious problem with that train of thought.

Guerilla's gem didn't launch until February 27; the next-to-the-last day of the month, if you're not calendar-proficient. Now, we don't know of any gamers who ran out to buy a PS3 on Valentine's Day in...

Is Sony Computer Entertainment Making a Robot Accessory?

Is Sony Computer Entertainment Making a Robot Accessory? 100°
311w ago - Think R.O.B. of the future! Sony Computer Entertainment patented a robot that works with a console like the PS3. The robot is designed with a camera to detect its surroundings and a display which can show images.

A microphone that reacts a user's voice and speaker allows the robot to respond to sound as well. Sony also plans to add a position detection sensor to the robot such as an acceleration sensor, gyro sensor, or possibly a GPS receiver.

To quote: Imagine playing a video game bundled with a tangible robot that rolls around on your carpet. Sounds unbelievable, but Sony Computer Entertainment filed a patent application for just that in June of last year.

The robot is designed with a camera (item 14) to detect its surroundings and a display (18) which can show images. A microphone that reacts a user's voice and speaker allows the robot to respond to sound as well. Sony also plans to add a position detection sensor to the robot such as an acceleration sensor, gyro sensor, or possibly a GPS receiver.

Unfortunately, the patent doesn't give any clues on how the robot can be used for a game. The document details the information processing system which lets the robot respond to commands even though a player's viewpoint is different than the robot's. Remember, if this is going...

GTA Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS Leaked, Working on Carts! 200°
312w ago - GTA Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS has been leaked online just before the weekend, and many users at GBATemp.net (linked above) have confirmed it works with a variety of carts.

The official streetdates for the title are March 17, 2009 for North America and March 20, 2009 for Europe.

Apparently it works on the G6 real with latest firmware, SCDS1 (clean, no patches with latest firmware and AKRPG (AKAIO).

To quote: "At the start when you turn on your DS with your supercard, go to the GTA NDS file on the top screen, then in the bottom screen you will see the file information, at the right hand side you will see ''SET PATCH'' click that, and you will notice that the top one is ''ENABLE PATCH'; which is ticked, well untick that and start the game!!"

Also, the DS-X is reportedly capable of running it with the MaxCrassMethod and others by using this save game file on your cart:
