XBL User’s Open Letter to MS About Live Issues; Taken Down by MS Soon After

XBL User’s Open Letter to MS About Live Issues; Taken Down by MS Soon After 50°
373w ago - Here is a very well written manifesto to MS about the recent perils of XBL. Its worth the read. Trust me.

The forum post has been locked since and mysteriously disappeared. I managed to salvage it because the page was already loaded and I emailed the link to another person who could not access it. His GamerTag, DWells55X, is now mysteriously invalid all... weird.

I won't pretend that this is a completely original idea and no one else has ever raised the question of why Xbox Live is a pay service. In fact, I used to be one of the people who argued against them and supported Xbox Live. But, with recent Xbox Live troubles and news, it's becoming significantly more difficult to do this. Having taken the time to really look at the state of Xbox Live is making me have to start agreeing with the people who I used to argue against.

Let's start with the recent Xbox Live downtime. It is, quite frankly, absolutely unacceptable for a pay service. Until a few days ago, my brother had a two week period where he could not recover his GamerTag from Xbox Live. That's two weeks of no Xbox Live access whatsoever. He tried deleting the profile of his Xbox and recovering it again, but this didn't work either. Now he couldn't even access his game saves or earn any achievements. Although I had...

Man arrested for stalking girls via Xbox Live

Man arrested for stalking girls via Xbox Live 50°
374w ago - In Spokane, Washington, a 20-year-old man was arrested on felony stalking charges after chatting to a 15-year-old girl on Xbox Live and eventually threatening to rape the girl and her sister.

Joshua Stetar of Saratoga Springs, New York met the 15-year-old girl through chatting and playing Halo online since last year. He reportedly sent packages and flowers to her home, all of which her parents returned. He also began text messaging her several hundred times on her cell phone, forcing the girl's mother to change her daughter's number. However, Stetar was able to get her new number, and the he continued to text message the girl.

At around 9:00pm Friday, Stetar sent a text message saying that he was driving by her house at the moment. The girl's parents in fact saw his car drive by.

At 9:36pm, Stetar sent another text message stating, "Tell the cops that I'm gonna rape you and your sister."

The girl's father called police, and officers found the suspect staying at a nearby Econo Lodge motel.

During a police interview, the suspect admitted that he was able to obtain the girl's address and phone number by "Googling" her name. He also admitted to driving 40 hours straight to get from New York to Spokane.

Stetar was booked into Spokane County...

Charges filed against FSU student following Internet threat

Charges filed against FSU student following Internet threat 50°
377w ago - Two misdemeanor counts of disrupting a school operation have been filed against a Frostburg State University student who allegedly made an Internet threat of "shooting up the school," according to district court documents.

The charges were filed in a criminal summons issued by a district court commissioner following consultation between the C3I Unit and Allegany County State's Attorney Michael Twigg.

Although the charges against 19-year-old Allieu Shaw of Gaithersburg are on file, there was no record this morning that Shaw had been served the summons. A trial date is set after the defendant is served a summons.

Shaw faces a maximum penalty of one year jail time and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

He was taken in handcuffs from FSU's Annapolis Hall, Room 148, at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after the C3I Unit learned of his location.

The university has placed Shaw on interim suspension pending an administrative hearing to be conducted by FSU.

According to court records, Shaw was playing the game "Call for Duty 4" in the XBOX Live gaming system with players around the country when he allegedly stated the threat of "shooting up the school." The statement reportedly contained a description from Shaw concerning "how he was going to do it."
