Six Films That Should Be Games 200°
June 7, 2008 // 7:48 pm - A few weeks ago, we scolded the video game industry for its abusive treatment of cinematic masterpieces. How, we wondered, could game makers turn such fantastic films into such digital disasters?

Then it dawned on us: maybe they were choosing the wrong movies! Just because a flick is brilliantly written or superbly acted doesn't mean it has any business being turned into a video game. Other films, however, are screaming for the game conversion, and we're here to lend our voice to the chorus. Game developers, get cracking on:

Children of Men

Sixaxis not sensitive enough for aiming in Resident Evil 5 300°
June 4, 2008 // 1:43 am - Jun Takeuchi has said that the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis controller wasn't a viable option for aiming in Resident Evil 5.

Responding to an inquiry from a European journalist, who raised the prospect of a PS3 control system similar to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Takeuchi said Sony's much-maligned motion-sensing controller "was not quite sensitive enough for that".

Takeuchi expressed his fondness for the PS3, though, calling it "a great system". "We're really pleased with it, and certainly as with other developers we did have problems getting to grips with it at first,...

Six teams vie for Satellite Prize 50°
April 22, 2008 // 2:24 pm - Six teams of students are vying for the chance to build an experiment for a satellite that will launch in 2010. The semi-finalists are now required to work up a final proposal for submission in August; an outright winner will be selected by judges in the Autumn.

The winning experiment is required to be about the size of a lunch box, weighing no more than 1kg. The contest is organised by the British National Space Centre (BNSC) and Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL).

It is aimed at students between the ages of 14 and 18. It was conceived by Dr Stuart Eves, of SSTL, as...

GTA IV has SIXAXIS Controls; Mandatory HDD Install Confirmed 100°
April 16, 2008 // 4:29 pm - According to 1UP editor Andrew Pfister, the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV contains optional SIXAXIS controls for the bike, chopper and boat vehicles.

With games like Lair, some of us have grown to dislike the SIXAXIS motion sensing controls, but it's still nice to have as an optional feature.

Moving on, Pfister revealed that the PS3 version of the game does require a certain amount of data to be installed on the HDD. Interestingly, Pfister said the installation process takes around 5 minutes. That long to install 3340KB of data?

Seems...

PS3 SIXAXIS Controller Officially Discontinued 350°
April 2, 2008 // 2:41 pm - In a not-so-surprising statement, a Sony representative confirmed today that SIXAXIS controller will officially be on its way out with the release of the force-feedback enabled DualShock 3 later this month.

Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it's completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).

So if you absolutely don't care about rumble support, take this as a cue to stay on the lookout for clearance deals on the old SIXAXIS controller.

PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 full of bugs 50°
March 24, 2008 // 2:12 pm - Uh oh, it would seem as if from the masses of posts at the Official Ubi boards that the PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is indeed full of a range of bugs.

Some of the problems include crashing PS3's, difficulity in setting-up games and even if getting online is successful, then the game is very laggy and unplayable. Ubisoft has issued a response by saying they are aware of the reported issues, and any further issues should be posted in the feedback thread (linked above).

To quote: Ubi, PS3 version online verses has numerous problems:

Is Sixaxis a white elephant? 50°
February 27, 2008 // 10:56 pm - Just in case you're not familiar with the phrase, a White Elephant is something that is more trouble and more expensive than its worth and therefore a liability. Sound familiar? Welcome to our 15 month appraisal of Sixaxis - PlayStation 3's controversial motion-sensitive controller.

After nearly a year and a half, it's hard to use the defence that it's 'still new technology'. There's a wealth of evidence by which to judge its success and second-generation games should have learned from the mistakes of the launch titles.

But we have to say, it's not a very convincing case...

PS3 Six USB Port Mod video out! 250°
February 25, 2008 // 3:14 pm - Not long ago we all saw the PS3 Rear USB Port Mod Video, and today MacSolidWorks is back with his latest creation- a (6) USB Port Mod (4 front and 2 rear) for PS3!

To quote: My PS3 now boasts six (6) fully functional USB ports, the original four in front, and two (2) in the rear. We used the facilities of Dominion Lasercom's R&D lab for our work location as this is a seriously complex (and frightening) mod.

Since their are no schematics or plans anywhere on the net to do this, we had a-lot of head scratching...
