Rock Band Guitar Fix and Song Export Utility to Arrive Thrusday! 50°

Hi Everyone: PS3 ROCK BAND DISC EXPORT TITLE UPDATE

First and foremost, we're happy to announce that PS3 users will soon be able to export RB1 songs to their system in advance of the launch of RB2! A PS3 patch will be coming out this Thursday, September 11th, which will allow RB1 song export, in addition to updating DLC to our RB2 standards (so you can continue to rock the newer content in RB1 if you so choose!)

This title update will also patch for the use of the Guitar Hero III Les Paul PS3 Controller with RB1 on the PS3. We're excited to release this, as controller compatibility is something we've been working towards for a long time.

This Rock Band 1 title update is set to come out next Thursday. As with the Xbox 360 Title Update, you will have to update Rock Band in order to play any DLC that is released after Thursday.

PAX PACK
This leads us to the PAX pack which was released yesterday on the PlayStation Store. Due to technical issues with the submission of "Livin on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" by MC Frontalot, users who downloaded that track or the entire pack found that they were not able to play this content in the game. Furthermore, downloading the pack meant that all 3 songs...

Guitar Hero Dev mocks Rock Band cymbals

Guitar Hero Dev mocks Rock Band cymbals 50°
340w ago - It was never going to be pretty - and with Guitar Hero World Tour set to go head to head with Rock Band 2 this autumn, the rock 'n' roll royal rumble has begun in earnest.

Speaking to Eurogamer last week at Game Convention 2008, Guitar Hero director Brian Bright scorned Harmonix' attempts to match the feature set of the World Tour drum kit, while ostensibly clearing up the mystery surrounding the rumored new peripherals for Neversoft's title.

"I don't know how far ahead they planned that - we obviously revealed [our drum kit] much earlier than they did," said Bright, referencing Harmonix' plan to release separate clip-on cymbals for Rock Band set-ups.

"I've a feeling there was a: 'Oh! There's cymbals! How can we put cymbals on our kit?' That would be the easiest way without having to rewire everything and re-engineer the entire circuit board."

Guitar Hero World Tour's drum kit, coming almost a year after Rock Band first took to the stage, features two raised cymbal inputs, three main pads and a pedal, providing one more input that its rival, with Neversoft arguing that the set-up is also more realistic. All pads are also velocity sensitive and the kit is wireless.

The Rock Band 2 kit remains backwards-compatible with the original game, but adds quieter, velocity...

Rock Band 2 Trophies Revealed!

Rock Band 2 Trophies Revealed! 50°
343w ago - Courtesy of IGN, all the Rock Band 2 trophies have now been revealed.

A glimpse of them is pictured below, with the full list linked above!

To quote: Rock Band 2 releases in just over a month, which means it's time to start preparing. Warm up your vocal chords, stretch out your arms, and get ready to start unlocking a new set of Trophies. We've got the full list here, outlining most everything you'll have to do to snag the coveted Platinum Trophy.

High scores and placement on the leaderboards is fine, but we all know that true bragging rights come with unlocking these bad boys. Read below to find them separated by type and know that the drum trainer Trophies are retroactive. That means that if you play at a high level it is possible to unlock more than one at a time playing either beats or fills. Once you're done perusing the list, hit up the image gallery for a new batch of screenshots.

Note that while this is the full list of Trophies that will appear in the game, we don't have their values yet (Bronze, Silver or Gold). But if you're headed for the Platinum, you'll be aiming for everything anyway.

Konami Levels Lawsuit Over Rock Band

Konami Levels Lawsuit Over Rock Band 100°
347w ago - Gaming is big business, and just like any big business, it has its fair share of courtroom proceedings. The latest big lawsuit is Konami Corp. vs. Viacom Inc.'s Harmonix studio; the former party claims Harmonix's Rock Band game violates patents.

According to Bloomberg, Konami issued patents in 2002 and 2003 that "relate to simulated musical instruments, a music-game system and a musical-rhythm matching game." They are now arguing that Rock Band goes against Konami's acquired patents, and they're demanding cash compensation, plus an order that would stop Viacom and Harmonix from utilizing those inventions in the future.

Now, Konami has revealed they plan to issue a competitor to the likes of Rock Band and Activision's Guitar Hero; it's Rock Revolution, which is scheduled to arrive later this year. But it seems they want one of those competitors to pay them for stealing what Konami claims was part of those patents. Viacom and Harmonix have yet to issue a response to the suit.

We really don't know what's going to come of this, but it could turn into a serious issue for the Rock Band makers. Then again, these things tend to drag on for a while...we might see Rock Band 3 and Rock Revolution 2 before everything is settled. Courts these days, you know?

Ion Reveals $299.99 Price for Premium Rock Band Drums

Ion Reveals $299.99 Price for Premium Rock Band Drums 50°
347w ago - Thought $180 for the original Rock Band package was expensive? You ain't seen nothing yet.

The official Web site for Ion's professional Drum Rocker (as recently revealed in Game Informer) lists a $299.99 price for the deluxe drum controller. Only the Xbox 360 version of the set is currently available for pre-order, though Wii and PS3 editions are "expected to ship later in the year," according to the site.

It's important to note that this is not the official drum set that will be packaged with Rock Band 2, but rather an officially licensed deluxe set that works with both Rock Band games.

While $300 may sound steep (soon, you could get a whole 'nother Xbox 360 for that price), Ion sounds like they've gone to great lengths to make sure serious virtual drummers get their money's worth. According to the site, the four high-durability, quiet, velocity-sensitive pads can be mounted and rearranged in any position and even outfitted with "professional drum brains" from Alesis. Add in a metal-reinforced kick pedal (with velcro and spikes to prevent slippage) and two packaged, mountable cymbals (with the option to add a third) and you've got what's unquestionably the Rolls Royce of drum controllers.

The Web site also has a short video and...
