Final Fantasy 13 Box Leak Reveals No PS3 HDD Install is Required 400°
November 26, 2009 // 11:40 pm - Today UffSite.net (linked above) has posted a picture of the Final Fantasy 13 box that has leaked, which reveals that no mandatory PS3 HDD Installation is required to confirm previous reports.

Additionally, although the game naturally runs in 720P it includes 1080P full HD for CGI sequences and has no lossless audio for the PlayStation 3 version.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Requires No PS3 HDD Installation 700°
November 7, 2009 // 10:00 am - Today GamesOnSmash.com (linked above) managed to get their hands on Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Sony's PlayStation 3 console and have confirmed that the title does not require any PS3 HDD installation.

However, they do report that upon receiving the game users will be prompted to download a 15MB update for it.

To quote: "Well today I got an early copy of Call Of Duty MW2. I put the disc in, and well the bad news is it requires a 15MB update but does no require any install whatsoever. So gamers can pretty much jump in and play on the PS3 version of the game.

Assassin's Creed II to Have 2GB Mandatory PS3 HDD Installation 500°
November 1, 2009 // 1:28 am - Assassin's Creed II is set to be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on November 17, 2009 and in PAL regions on November 20, 2009.

The Windows version of the game was originally scheduled to be released at the same time, however Ubisoft later announced that it would be delayed until the first quarter of 2010.

BrutalGamer.com (linked above) reports today that the game will require 2GB of data to be installed on the PlayStation 3's hard drive, meaning the PS3 HDD installation time will total approximately five to six minutes.

Ratchet & Clank Future Has a Mandatory 500MB PS3 HDD Install 300°

Tekken 6 to Offer a 4GB Optional PS3 HDD Installation 300°
October 21, 2009 // 9:28 pm - Even though Final Fantasy XIII was reported earlier today to require no PlayStation 3 HDD installation, Tekken 6 (available October 27 in North America) appears to have an optional 4GB PS3 install.

According to Tekken 6 game director Katsuhiro Hirada, the stages will be bigger and will have more interactivity- such as walls or floors that can be broken to reveal new fighting areas. The character customization feature has been enhanced, and will be more involved with the gameplay.

Final Fantasy XIII to Have no PS3 HDD Installation Required 200°
October 21, 2009 // 8:13 pm - The folks over at IGN went over the latest issue of Famitsu magazine and revealed that Final Fantasy XIII won't require a PS3 HDD installation.

They also made a comment on loading times, and how the only time you will see them is when the transition from town to field occurs.

The devs Tetsuya Nomura and Motomu Toriyama commented on how they did this because they wanted to create seamless environments with no loading.

Random PlayStation 3 HDD & RAM Dumping Bug Discovered 500°
September 9, 2009 // 6:48 pm - Today SKFU has shared a bug he found in PS3 Firmware 2.8 (although he said it should be present since 2.0 through 3.0) that allows you to dump random data from the PlayStation 3 HDD and RAM.

To quote: There's a little "bug" in the PlayStation3's NAT test which causes that you can dump random data from the HDD and RAM. Why exactly this appears; I don't know, yet. But well, it is interesting.

The way how to do it is pretty simple. Set up Wireshark on the PC and activate ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Koller: No PS3 Slim Backwards Compatibility, Upgradeable HDD 250°
August 18, 2009 // 9:10 pm - GamePro (linked above) has done an interview with SCEA Marketing Boss John Koller covering the new PS3 Slim console.

During the interview, Koller revealed that there is currently no PS3 Slim backwards compatibility, however, the PS3 Slim HDD is upgradeable.
