New Prince of Persia Named and Dated for PS3! 50°
355w ago - A few tidbits of information have sneaked out regarding the new Prince of Persia game, including the title and launch window.

The new game will be known as Prince of Persia: Heir Apparent, according to the latest issue of Game Informer.

Without any other information, we can't even hazard a guess as to what that's supposed to mean, if it means anything at all.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will launch in its third fiscal quarter, meaning we can expect it between October and December. We're penciling it in on our Chrimbo 08 list already.

New Prince of Persia goes Open-World

356w ago - Late last month, Ubisoft finally officially announced Prince of Persia for the current generation, and Edge magazine was said to have the juicy scoop in an upcoming issue. That issue has now arrived, and the first details are here.

As it was already known, the game is being worked on at Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio that created the Sands of Time trilogy (The Sands of Time, Warrior Within, The Two Thrones). While people are being brought in from other projects, the core team working on the new game has remained the same as it was with the trilogy, meaning the game is in experienced and very capable hands.

Prince of Persia is powered by Anvil, the same game engine used in Assassin's Creed, however, the two games look quite a bit different. While Assassin's Creed went for the realistic look, the visual style in POP is inspired by Japanese movies like Princess Mononoke, and games like Okami, and the new Street Fighter. "Fantasy, but credible," as the game's visual art director Mickael Labat puts it.

When it comes to any relations to the previous games, producer Ben Mattes doesn't leave any room for speculation: "The Sands of Time are dead and gone," saying that the new game is a new chapter with its own story, proved by the fact that the player won't start off as a prince...

Prince of Persia might come to the Wii

356w ago - A new Prince of Persia title has been announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and in a recent interview with the edge magazine, Ubisoft declared that the current title declared for the PS3 and X360 will not be ported to the Wii, however there might be a title in the works for the Wii.

Here's a snippet of the interview, property of the Edge Magazine:

"It's connected to the game in a very interesting way, but it's not a port. A complementary experience, shall we say?" it explained. ... We ported Two Thrones to the Wii. It was a quick and dirty port, i can say. With that we saw a lot of potential. The controls were not fully optimised, did not take full advantage of the Wii, but a lot of people saw the PoP universe could certainly have a home on Wii.

Since then people have been looking into that, but there's no formal announcement. We are investigating it very seriously. You would never see a port of the game we're making however. That'll never happen."

There has been many rumors popping up lately about the Prince of Persia franchise, some saying that it might go exclusively to one console or the other, but surely want to see venerable entries on all platforms.

We'll be waiting for the new Prince of Persia probably coming this summer.

356w ago - It may still be over a year away, with a current release of June 19, 2009 planned, but it seems as if Hollywood is getting into full swing, and is already getting ready to heavily promote the upcoming movie based on the Prince of Persia series.

Recent details hint that the film will loosely follow The Sands of Time storyline of recent games, but will see some changes to better accommodate medium of film.

The film will be directed by Mike Newell of Into the West, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Goblet of Fire and Mona Lisa Smile fame, and will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Disney will be in charge of distribution of the film.

It is rumored that the film will make use of Parkour for many of the quick paced action sequences. Hollywood already used the style to great effect in the opening scenes of the last James Bond movie, Casino Royale.
