Developers Starting to Back PlayStation 3 200°
343w ago - It's just something that I have noticed occurring behind the scenes over the last year that I think is worthy of bringing up, as it indicates a growing faith in the PlayStation 3 console from developers and publishers across the globe. It does not mean that the Xbox 360 is any less important, just that the PS3 is definitely starting to get equal-footing on multi-format games.

Go back six months and more, almost every game that was multi-format...

Sony Could Be Holding Back Resistance 2's Success 50°
344w ago - If you have paid attention to any of our editorials here at Blend Games since late 2006, you would have noticed a consistent disdain for a particular section of Sony's business model: their video game marketing section.

Sadly, these guys and gals have done very little to properly promote many of their own first-party games, and in result have managed to create a very sub-par community outside the initial fan-boy hype.

PlayTV goes back to DRM-free, PSP-friendly copying! 250°
348w ago - Sometimes it's hard to keep track of what's "official" and what's not - especially because Sony continues to contradict itself. When we first heard the Euro-exclusive PlayTV box would allow users to copy recorded shows onto the PSP, we all said "yay."

The convenience of recording TV and taking it with us wherever we go sounded swell. Then, we found out that the files would be restricted.

Well, with PlayTV in the hands of...

LGC: Need For Speed goes 250°
349w ago - EA has released the first proper details on Need for Speed: Undercover, which'll no doubt sit somewhere near the top of this Christmas's sales chart.

After the disappointing Pro Street, Undercover takes the NFS series "back to its roots" says EA, with high-speed pursuits with rivals while dodging the old blues 'n twos to take down an International crime syndicate. All whilst undercover, obviously.

There's 80 miles of road...

351w ago - Former Sony boss Chris Deering has put up word that right now just 3 out of 10 games earn back their development budgets.

In addition to this he expects a greater inflex of game companies outside the video game industry to move into the market.

To quote: The gaming industry is still high on its rampant success even in the face of declining economies.

Even so, Deering warned that "traditional revenue...

Opinion: Is the GPU holding the PS3 back? 350°
360w ago - Self-proclaimed veteran games industry marketer, Bruce Everiss, believes Sony's GPU is holding back the console and that it has made it a less powerful gaming machine than the Xbox 360.

Everiss uses a quote from Richard Huddy of ATI to back up the claim: "I think Xbox 360 technology is likely to outperform PlayStation 3 technology by a pretty healthy margin in the long run. It looks like the GPU is holding the PS3 back."...

Microsoft Predicted to Back Away from Vista 100°
367w ago - When it comes to technology debacles, every major company has a few (remember the Newton?), but right now one of the top spots has to go to Windows Vista, Microsoft's clunky operating system that has IT shops and consumers desperately clutching at XP for as long as they can.

Jason Hiner over at Tech Republic thinks there may be a light at the end of the Vista tunnel; he predicts IT shops and consumers will have a chance within...

Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back banned in Australia 50°
394w ago - Australia's restrictive ratings classification system for games has struck again. This time, Activision's upcoming first-person shooter Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back has been hit, with Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) effectively banning the game from sale down under.

The OFLC has refused classification for Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, making it illegal to sell in Australia....
