Sony Fined $18.5 Million in Patent Infringement Suit 50°
November 18, 2008 // 9:46 pm - Over two years ago, Agere Systems filed a suit against Sony for potential infringement on patents regarding "wireless local area network apparatus."

Looks like the courts ruled in Agere Systems' favor.

Sony has been fined $18.5 million for use of the technology in their devices, such as the Mylo and PlayStation Portable.

Finally, the jury ruled that the patent infringement was willful.

Metal Gear Online Now Has One Million Members 50°
November 4, 2008 // 9:02 pm - Konami announced that over one million users created a Konami ID to play Metal Gear Online.

To celebrate the achievement, they are launching a rewards campaign on November 25, offering players who sign on the MGO service 10,000 reward points through December 9.

Those who sign on during the timeframe will be automatically entered into a random draw to win 100,000 in reward points.

The Witcher Sells One Million Copies for PC 200°
November 4, 2008 // 12:54 am - It's nice to get some figures that can be used to throw in the face of all those who claim PC gaming to be a dying breed.

The Witcher, and the just released Enhanced Edition has just broken the One-Million mark in sales. For those of you who haven't played it, I'd highly recommend it. As far as classic style PC RPGs go, this one is top notch.

The original release had a few pretty bad issues, terrible load times being the worst, but the Enhanced Edition is enhanced in every way.

EA Reports $310 Million Net Loss, Cuts Workforce by Six Hundred 50°
October 30, 2008 // 11:07 pm - Word hit today through the grapevine that "massive" layoffs had hit at Electronic Arts. Initially we heard as much as 20 percent of the staff has been let go, but a quick check with Electronic Arts confirms that it was actually 6 percent, or about 600 positions.

Five Hundred Million GBP Bill for Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death 50°
July 7, 2008 // 10:59 pm - Computer giants Microsoft are facing a £500 million ($990 million) repair bill after their Xbox Elite consoles were hit by the notorious "red ring of death".

The console was originally thought to be immune from the problem, which permanently freezes the unit after a ring of green lights on the power control button turn red.

Wii Fit causes over 20 Million GBP in damage to homes 50°
June 16, 2008 // 1:07 am - There's no doubting that Wii Fit has helped many a gamer get back into shape since its release, but a new poll by woman-only insurance firm Sheila's Wheels has discovered that users of the software have caused upwards of £20 million GBP damage to their homes whilst exercising on the Balance Board.

Nearly one in five of the 1,000 women polled admitted to causing accidents while using Wii Fit, including bumping into furniture, smashing flowerpots, banging their heads and of course, pulling muscles.

Nintendo hit with $21 million Patent Infringement 50°
May 15, 2008 // 9:54 pm - Nintendo of America Inc. was ordered to pay a small East Texas gaming company $21 million Wednesday for infringing on a patent while designing controllers for its popular Wii and GameCube systems.

A federal jury found in favor of Anascape Ltd. in the lawsuit that was originally filed in 2006. Nintendo spokesman Charlie Scibetta said the company will seek an appeal and expects the court to reduce the award "significantly."

The jury found that Nintendo infringed on Anascape's patent while designing its Wii Classic, WaveBird and Gamecube controllers.
