Hey, everyone. It's time again for the weekly PlayStation Store update.

EA SPORTS welcomes you to the fast paced world of arcade hockey. From the same team that brought you NHL 09 comes a 3 on 3 experience that throws conventional hockey, and its rules, out the window. Choose from 40 of the NHL's top players and bring them into this no rules hockey game where big heads and big hits rule the day.

With loads of power-ups falling on the ice to the ability to level a guy clear out of the rink, this is definitely not your typical simulation. This full version of the game offers online play, achievements, leaderboard tracking, and more features that will have you coming back for more.

Brash Entertainment's 'Saw' Video Game Picked Up By Konami

100°
316w ago - "Saw," one of the highest profile games left orphaned when Brash Entertainment went out of business, has been picked up by Konami.

Sources close to the project have confirmed that Konami has made a deal with Lionsgate, to whom the rights reverted when Brash breached its contract, and developer Zombie Studios.

The game will come out this fall along with the sixth "Saw" film (I almost wrote "Saw VI," but that series is getting so long in the tooth I'm wondering if they'll take a cue from the seventh "Star Trek" movie and just drop the numbers).

Konami is an obvious choice to pick up "Saw," since it has experience selling horror with a little franchise called "Silent Hill." But the game almost took a very intriguing twist: no publisher at all.

Or rather, no traditional publisher. Several sources told me that after it got the game rights back from Brash, Lionsgate strongly considered holding onto it and jumping into the videogame business by making "Saw" its first self-published game.

Like every other movie studio (some of whom have gotten into videogames, the rest of whom are considering it), Lionsgate was tempted by potential profits in the fast growing videogame biz. But in the end, execs...

PS3 Debug Firmware Update 2.52 Now Available!

650°
316w ago - Over a month ago papa44 made mention HERE that he was planning to share PS3 Debug Firmware Update 2.52 with our community. Sadly, after stating he was uploading it he never replied again... and to date has been online only lurking.

Just recently I ran across it myself, but since it didn't come with any documentation all I had was a PS3UPDAT.PUP file that WinHex showed as being "2.52" (122 MB - 128,615,182 bytes).

The good news is, CJPC was able to successfully install and confirm for us that it is indeed a legitimate PS3 2.52 Debug Firmware update file, and as a result we have now added it to our PS3 Debug Firmware section for those interested!

Some changes CJPC noticed during his brief time testing it out were as follows: It now includes Network emulation and you can now save the PUP files on the PS3 HDD and access them later.

For example, if you click System Update, then Install from HDD, it will give you a list of PUPs stored on the HDD which can be installed. Additionally, all of the PS3 2.52 dev_flash files...

PS3 Media Server v1.04 Update Now Available!

650°
316w ago - Another PS3 Media Server update is upon us, and to quote developer ps3mediaserver:

Here's the new version!... some explanations about the new "video copy" feature: in previous versions, you couldn't copy any transcoded videos on your ps3, due to a virtual size of 94gb... now it's possible, with this option enabled.

Be careful: if you want to use that feature, it's recommended to set a reasonable bandwidth limit in transcode options, because transcoded videos will have no fixed size, and you could fill up your ps3's hard drive pretty quickly with default settings !

Download: PS3 Media Server for Windows v1.04 / PS3 Media Server for Linux v1.04 / PS3 Media Server for Mac OSX v1.04 (Intel only)

Here's the changelog:

- Changes / Features

. New option to enable video copy on ps3
. RAW images thumbnail support: CR2/CRW/PEF/NEF/ORF/SRF/MRW/DNG/ARW/RAF
. New extensions supported: SHN/M2V/M2P
. tsMuxer engine can now mux or reencode in AC3/PCM all audio tracks in real time
. Add the experimental mencoder build...

IBM's Sequoia: 20x Faster Than World's Fastest Supercomputer

250°
317w ago - The U.S. government has agreed to buy two supercomputers from IBM Corp., including one to be in use in 2012 that will ultimately scale to 20 petaflops, an estimated ten times the performance of today's most powerful system.

Terms of the deal were not immediately released.

In June, IBM became the first to break the petaflops performance mark with a separate government system. Cray quickly followed with a petaflops system that hit the Top 500 list in November.

The new IBM BlueGene-class systems will be installed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to handle analysis of the U.S. nuclear stockpile. The lab currently uses an IBM BlueGene/L system.

Under the deal IBM will deliver to the lab by April one of its BlueGene/P systems capable of up to 500 teraflops. By sometime in 2012, IBM will have installed a follow on system called Sequoia.

BlueGene/P uses a modified PowerPC 450 processor running at 850 MHz with four cores per chip and as many as 4,096 processors in a rack. The Sequoia system will use 45nm processors with as many as 16 cores per chip running at a significantly faster data rate.

Both BlueGene/P and Sequoia consist of clusters built up from 96 racks of systems. Sequoia will have 1.6 petabytes of memory feeding its 1.6 million cores, but...
