Tournament Kit in SoulCalibur IV Special Edition explained

Tournament Kit in SoulCalibur IV Special Edition explained 100°
358w ago - There has been some mystery about a "Tournament Kit" item bundled with the special edition of SoulCalibur IV. The official announcement didn't explain the item in detail and in case you were waiting on bated breath to hear what it is, we found out. It's a tournament bracket card.

However uneventful this information is, we discovered something else about the SoulCalibur IV limited edition. The t-shirt you get tucked in the tin is different if you purchase the PlayStation 3 version or the Xbox 360 release.

Buy the Xbox 360 version and you get Yoda/Siegfried on a white shirt. PlayStation 3 purchasers get Mitsurugi/Darth Vader on a black tee.

Both shirts are unfortunately only in size XL.

358w ago - A new record for the PSP! Monster Hunter keeps on selling over in Japan. The latest milestone represents a first both for the series and for the PSP: double platinum.

Capcom announced today that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has crossed the two million mark in Japanese shipments. This is the first time the Monster Hunter series has reached this mark, and is also a first for a Japanese PSP title.

While this is a shipped figure, the title is still one of the hottest titles at retail. The latest numbers from tracker Media Create have it in second place for last week, trailing just behind Mario Kart Wii.

PS3 GTA IV presales outpace 360 version down under

PS3 GTA IV presales outpace 360 version down under 100°
358w ago - When Microsoft announced its multimillion deal with Rockstar for exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, many predicted that this would provide a significant incentive for gamers to choose the Xbox 360 version of the game over the PlayStation 3 version.

But Australian presale figures seem to be telling a different story, with major retailers contacted by GameSpot AU today saying that the PS3 version was currently in the lead.

A spokeswoman for EB Games Australia--the largest specialty games retailer in the country--told GameSpot AU that the PS3 version of GTAIV was just ahead of the 360 in terms of presales. "We are happy to tell you it's neck and neck, but at the moment, PlayStation 3 is currently in the lead," EB Games Australia brand and public relations manager Debra McGrath said.

The PS3 version was even farther ahead with retailer Gametraders. The company's national marketing manager Chad Polley said, "According to the figures we have at the moment, we're [pre-]selling two PS3 versions for every one 360 unit."

Last night, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia fired back at Microsoft's DLC incentive, finally confirming rumours that there is indeed a PlayStation 3 GTAIV bundle on the way for Australia. The pack comes with a 40GB PS3, one Sixaxis controller,...

Infinity Ward wants CoD Exclusively, 3rd-person CoD Coming?

Infinity Ward wants CoD Exclusively, 3rd-person CoD Coming? 50°
358w ago - Word has begun spreading around, originating from Next-Gen.Biz, about Infinity Ward potentially looking to secure exclusive development of the Call of Duty franchise.

As many CoD fans should know, the games were originally spearheaded by the gang at Infinity Ward, as the first two games were developed by the team. Following CoD2, Treyarch took the responsibilities of CoD3, in addition to a few spin-offs, while Infinity Ward began work on Call of Duty 4.

Well, after enormous critical acclaim, absurdly huge sales, and a welcomed breath of fresh air, Activision had decided to let Treyarch work on Call of Duty 5. Moreover, they'll be taking the series back to the beaten-deader-than-a-dead-horse World War II scenario. This decision has been met with a lot of anger, seeing as how CoD3 is widely regarded to be the worst of the series, and Treyarch was behind it.

Now that you've been caught up with the drama, let's get back to the topic at hand. This rumor of I.W. attempting to secure exclusivity allegedly comes from a former Activision employee, someone from the recently closed Foster City/Underground studio.

Why could this have credence? Well, apparently, the reason why Activision had shut down their Underground Studio (formerly Z-Axis), is because after they finished Enemy Territory:...

Ubuntu reaping Linux dividend

Ubuntu reaping Linux dividend 50°
358w ago - The public perception of open source software is changing fast, said Mark Shuttleworth, who leads distribution of the Ubuntu operating system (OS).

A new version of Ubuntu, a version of the Linux OS, is released on Thursday. Mr Shuttleworth said the success of the Asus Eee PC and the work of the One Laptop Per Child programme had driven awareness of open source.

"There has been a sea change in the way people think of Linux, which is very healthy," he said.

"We have seen a real shift in the last six months from folks seeing open source as either a super-specialist thing for people who run data centres or as an enthusiast thing, to something which is energising a lot of the straight commercial PC industry," said Mr Shuttleworth.

Platform development

He manages Canonical software, which is the primary sponsor of distribution for Ubuntu, and a key element in the platform's development.

He is also well-known for being the second-ever, self-funded space tourist, travelling to the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz spacecraft in 2002.

Mr Shuttleworth said ordinary consumers were beginning to turn to Ubuntu, and to Linux more generally, to improve their daily computing experience.

"If people think of computing...
