Unofficial God of War III Teaser

Unofficial God of War III Teaser 50°
378w ago - Here's an updated version of my God of War III teaser. I got a lot of helpful feedback on the original and decided to improve it.

I tweaked a lot of the graphics/effects as well added some. You'll also notice the addition of voice overs. Enjoy!

Street Fighter IV Unveiled

Street Fighter IV Unveiled 50°
378w ago - Numbers are supposed to be impressive, right? Well, it's been 10 years, two hardware generations, and about seventeen thousand rumors since the last pure number Street Fighter came around. And today we have the first ever official details on Street Fighter IV.

We don't blame you if your eyes have already skipped down to the screenshot lower on the page (yes, that's from the game engine). Take your time. But we've got some information as well, so the rest of this is probably worth reading when you get a chance.

Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality).

For the full reveal of the game -- including hands-on impressions, a rundown of the new gameplay system, and loads of details on new features --...

Dreamcast 2 in the works?

Dreamcast 2 in the works? 50°
378w ago - Trademark application sparks excitement over SEGA re-entry into console market.

SEGA Corporation has filed a new application to protect the trademark Dreamcast - sparking rumours that the Japanese publisher is planning on making a shock return to the console manufacturing market with the Dreamcast 2.

The application, sent to the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Applications and Registrations Retrieval (TARR) dated August 13 2007, relates to:

"Home video game machines; player-operated electronic controllers for electronic video game machines; video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs".

Web chatter suggests the proof is in the detail of the application - the original Dreamcast didn't have a floor mat accessory and the Dreamcast's Visual Memory Unit (VMU) is far from the flash memory cards we know and use today - although we'd say that the VMU is pretty similar to the modern day memory cards.

The filing could, of course, simply be a further effort from SEGA to protect the Dreamcast name. According to the USPTO the original Dreamcast trademark is still active. However,...

Almost a Third of Americans Will Buy Video Games as Gifts this Holiday

Almost a Third of Americans Will Buy Video Games as Gifts this Holiday 50°
378w ago - Video games are a hot item. This holiday shopping season in particular, around 30 percent of adults in the U.S. will buy video games as gifts, according to the ESA.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has provided us with some recent data from a purchasing poll conducted by KRC Research. The survey, which looked at "a nationally representative sample" of 1,013 adults during November, found that computer and video games have become an increasingly popular gift item in the U.S.

In particular, 27 million American adults (or 30 percent) are estimated to give a video game as a gift this holiday. The ESA noted that this is a nine million increase since the last study conducted in back in 2005.

In addition, more than a third of adults (34 percent) is planning on playing a computer or video game with friends or family during the holidays. Not surprisingly, this figure jumps to 70 percent among younger adults (ages 18 to 24). Furthermore, 77 percent of adults with children under the age of 12 at home said that they will check ESRB ratings before making gift purchases.

While playing with family is important, among adults age 18 to 34, 56 percent also said that they are likely to play games with other people during the holidays. Once again, among...

Fall Dashboard Update Kills My 8th Xbox 360… Yes, 8th

Fall Dashboard Update Kills My 8th Xbox 360… Yes, 8th 50°
378w ago - I swear to God, I'm so fed up with broken Xbox 360's. This is my damn 8th console to die. MY DAMN 8TH!!!!!!! Quality Assurance my ass. This is ridiculous. This is piss poor product development and testing.

Like I've said before, I haven't had any other systems die on me. Ever. The Xbox 360 is the only system ever to break. And now I've gone through 8 of them. Tonight, after grabbing the new Fall Dashboard Update, it started making weird noises and froze up in Guitar Hero 3. When I turned it off and back on... guess what? Yep. Red Ring of Death. Good times people. Good times.

It's not like I treat it like crap. It's babied. My Xbox 360 has it's own shelf in the entertainment center, with full ventilation from the front and rear. The power brick also sits on the shelf fully ventilated. The console is never moved when playing (in fact, it's only moved a tiny bit once a week to dust). The console is kept perfectly clean, as are my other systems. I haven't had any problems with my PS3 (save long install times) or my Wii. Never had problems with my PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube before that.

I really hope someone from Microsoft reads this. This is unacceptable. Once my Best Buy replacement plan is up, I'm done. Having 8 consoles fail on me in a little over 2 years is ludicrous. I'm...
