OPM: First Review of Killzone 2 for PlayStation 3 Nabs 5/5 100°
321w ago - SpartanFX from VGChartz (linked above) reports that the OPM February issue has posted the first review of the stellar PS3 title Killzone 2. The game has got the perfect score as expected. The reviewer said:

"The buddies alongside you in each battle have been expertly tuned to provide just enough cover and support to actively get your back on occasions, while never making it feel like they could acchieve every objective alone."

"...the believability and consistency are hallmarks of the Killzone 2 expereince. None of the circumstances, weapons you find, locations you visit, or frankly any of the details in the world feel arbitrary. The world is consistently realized in its unappealing flavor."

"...filled with moments that can handily be described as inspiring awe"

- bots in offline multiplayer "perform pretty well"

"Without a doubt Killzone fans, action, and shooter fans of any stripe will isntantly tag this sequel as a powerful contender for teh best game of 2009"

PlayStation 3 Trophies Reflect Skill More than Achievements

PlayStation 3 Trophies Reflect Skill More than Achievements 400°
321w ago - It was inevitable that gamers would compare PlayStation 3 trophies to the Xbox 360's achievements. While it's true that both reward systems add a considerable amount of replayability to games, it's still unclear which is superior.

The main thing that Xbox 360 fans can boast is that achievements are mandatory for every game available on the Xbox 360 and it has been that way since the launch of the system. It is a shame that the trophy system Sony implemented in many of its games were not available at launch and was not mandatory throughout most of 2008.

Hopefully, trophy support becomes mandatory in 2009, so that gamers aren't torn between buying games based on whether or not they support trophies. Regardless of which was around longer, trophies and achievements are very similar, and are in direct competition for gamers attention.

Here are the reasons why trophies should motivate more gamers to collect them all rather than collecting achievement points.

Almost everyone that owns an Xbox 360 wants to have a high gamer score to boast about. While it's obvious from a high gamer score that a person has a love for playing video games, it usually doesn't mean that this person is a particularly skilled gamer.

Most gamers that have a high gamer score have simply played a...

Video Games Make a Killing Even in Bleak Season

Video Games Make a Killing Even in Bleak Season 50°
325w ago - The economy is in the doldrums, and shoppers everywhere are cutting back on spending. Yet in stores and Web outlets selling video games, times have rarely been better.

Thanks to the spread of video games to older demographics, to the mature product cycle of all three leading game consoles, and to the incredible popularity of the sector-changing Nintendo Wii, the video game industry is bucking the recession.

From harried housewives getting in some exercise on the Wii Fit to teeny-boppers playing along with bands on music games, or hardcore gamers enjoying the spectacularly immersive effects of titles like Gears of War 2, the industry is offering something for everyone at relatively modest prices.

That assertion may surprise those who think that splashing out 50 dollars or more per game and hundreds of dollars for a console is a bit excessive. But when you figure out how long a successful game can hold a player's attention, the investment seems a lot more worthwhile.

The enthusiasm for this most modern of entertainment devices is hardly confined to the United States.

Microsoft reports that November was its biggest sales month in Europe for the Xbox 360 console - sales rose 124 per cent from a year earlier. In the US, the Xbox had its best Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving,...
