Rumored Sony PlayStation 3 Price Cut Will Not Happen

Rumored Sony PlayStation 3 Price Cut Will Not Happen 400°
311w ago - For those of you wishing for a price cut with the PS3 think again.

Sony says that it is losing $50 on every PS3 it sells right now. If they were to reduce the cost $100 they would go from losing 11% to 33%.

This is why it will never happen and why XBOX360 will always out selling ahead. The fact that Microsoft can support losing 33% is why the XBOX360 can get a big price cut.

When Sony has a new console ready then the price will drop, but I believe they need to spend more time on their firmware and extending their warranties than cutting the price of the console. Sony, are you listening?

To quote: In late February an analyst with Janco Partners claimed a price drop announcement from Sony was due "in the next couple days." Nearly a month later, no word on so much as a sales snip.

But Sony's still losing about $50 per PS3, according to Business Week, which pegged Sony's costs at $448.73 per system as recently as December 2008. If Sony dropped the retail price of the PS3 by $100, they'd increase their per unit losses by nearly a quarter ? from 11 to 33 percent.

What's more, GamePro...

Is Sony Computer Entertainment Making a Robot Accessory?

Is Sony Computer Entertainment Making a Robot Accessory? 100°
311w ago - Think R.O.B. of the future! Sony Computer Entertainment patented a robot that works with a console like the PS3. The robot is designed with a camera to detect its surroundings and a display which can show images.

A microphone that reacts a user's voice and speaker allows the robot to respond to sound as well. Sony also plans to add a position detection sensor to the robot such as an acceleration sensor, gyro sensor, or possibly a GPS receiver.

To quote: Imagine playing a video game bundled with a tangible robot that rolls around on your carpet. Sounds unbelievable, but Sony Computer Entertainment filed a patent application for just that in June of last year.

The robot is designed with a camera (item 14) to detect its surroundings and a display (18) which can show images. A microphone that reacts a user's voice and speaker allows the robot to respond to sound as well. Sony also plans to add a position detection sensor to the robot such as an acceleration sensor, gyro sensor, or possibly a GPS receiver.

Unfortunately, the patent doesn't give any clues on how the robot can be used for a game. The document details the information processing system which lets the robot respond to commands even though a player's viewpoint is different than the robot's. Remember, if this is going...

Why a PS3 Price Cut is Not Likely to Change a Thing for Sony

Why a PS3 Price Cut is Not Likely to Change a Thing for Sony 550°
311w ago - Most likely the PS3 will get a price cut very soon. It is the common sense thing to do if you are Sony.

So the question really shouldn't be when? Rather it should be, will the price cut even matter?

For three years now the PS3 has been unable to sustain any momentum that it has gathered from time to time. While there are many contributing factors for Sony's tough outing this generation, the one main factor everyone agrees on is price.

So here we are amidst rumors that a PS3 price drop is imminent. The buzz has been there for a while, but now the slight hum is a pounding noise. Game developers have started to speak out publicly for a PS3 price cut. Sony has been firm and unflinching in denying all rumors.

Price cut or not the PS3 would still be the highest priced of the 3 consoles. And to the parents of eager kids everywhere, the lower price Wii and 360 are a more appropriate choice given the economic conditions that every family is starting to face.

Sure the PS3's cheapest model is a better value than the Xbox 360's basic model. But to most consumers this is unknown. We gamers at times tend to forget that not all consumers know the latest gaming news. The...

To quote: Don't get your hopes up, folks, but there is something of a rumor stemming from NeoGAF about the next iteration of the PlayStation Portable, dubbed herein as "PSP 3G:"

David Perry // Producer, SCEA: Also well known as the PSP-4000 or the PSP2, the new PSP model will be called PSP 3G. Unlike previous PSP models it will have a Touch Screen as well as an UMTS support, Bluetooth and a microphone. That means you will be able to use it easily as a normal mobile phone.

With its ultra compact size and design it will be not much bigger than an iPhone but it will offer you the highest gaming comfort. There wont be any UMD-drive any more but instead a keyboard with a slide mechanism though.

But of course, you will be able to download all the games From The PSN Store with the PSP 3G soon. Cooperating with Sony Ericsson, we will be able to deliver the PSP 3G in the USA and Japan by the end of April 2009. First pictures will follow tomorrow.

So, yeah. I think someone was duped somewhere. If you see this pop up, don't buy into it unless...

Why Mass Effect 2 Won't Be Coming to Sony's PS3 Console

Why Mass Effect 2 Won't Be Coming to Sony's PS3 Console 250°
311w ago - With the news surfacing about BioWare - who is now wholly owned by Electronic Arts - formally announcing Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360 and PC, it has become rather obvious that this wasn't heading to the PS3 and here's a few possible reasons why.

First of all, back when BioWare wasn't owned by Electronic Arts, Microsoft had already published the first game for the Xbox 360 with intentions (much like Gears of War) to maintain a new franchised trilogy for the Xbox brand. People can argue semantics, publishing and trademark rights all they want, but consider Col. Sheppard the tertiary mascot next to Master Chief and Marcus Fenix.

It was reiterated time-over and again that Mass Effect was going to be an Xbox 360 trilogy. And even while Casey Hudson denied plans for a PC rendition of Mass Effect in an interview with Gamer 2.0, it was obvious the big bad MS wasn't going to let gold slip through their fingers...especially considering that the Games for Windows platform is utter crap and needed something good in its library.

The fact that Hudson lied about the PC version could prompt some gamers to believe that Mass Effect 2 could still be heading to the PS3. However, the difference...
