Top Seven Reasons Why Sony's PlayStation Home Will Succeed

Top Seven Reasons Why Sony's PlayStation Home Will Succeed 350°
308w ago - When Home first opened to the public late last year, the public reaction was skeptical and negative. There really wasn't much to do beyond customizing your character and walking around. It seemed like nothing more than a glorified chat system.

As the excitement around Second Life collapsed and Google cancelled their 3D avatar project "Lively", people questioned whether there really was a need or purpose to these 3D avatar systems at all.

Now, Home's core feature set has improved, there are more spaces to explore, much more elaborate mini-games, and Xi is arguably the first piece of "destination content" that is really good enough to pull people to the system.

However, Home is still very much an unfinished work in progress with most of its potential unrealized, but it's fleshed out enough where you can play it and easily understand where they are headed.

Here are the top seven reasons that PlayStation Home will eventually be a success:

Disney World Epcot Style Entertainment Advertising

PlayStation Home aims to host lots of corporate sponsored virtual spaces like Disney World's Epcot Center hosts corporate sponsored pavilions. TV and print ads are becoming less and less effective, yet companies still need to show their products to...

Bluetooth 3.0 Specifications & What it Could Mean for Sony's PS3

Bluetooth 3.0 Specifications & What it Could Mean for Sony's PS3 300°
308w ago - The Bluetooth Special Interest group have announced that on April 21st they'll officially unveil the details regarding their updated Bluetooth profile 3.0.

Within 3.0, the new update will allow for less disconnects and faster transfer speeds.

To quote: On April 21st, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group will officially unveil its Bluetooth 3.0 technology to the world. Unsurprisingly, Bluetooth 3.0 is promised to be much faster than the current 2.0/2.1 standard, according to the SIG:

"Transferring an entire music library, a complete DVD, a vacation's worth of photos, all within seconds at the touch of a button and wirelessly will now be possible."

Three-point-oh will also feature new Enhanced Power Control (or EPC), which will "reduces the incidence of disconnects caused by movement such as placing a phone in a pocket or purse."

On the technical side, it is a Generic Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) that will enable Bluetooth profiles to take advantage of 802.11 speeds. The 802.11 Protocol Adaption Layer (PAL) will enable the Generic AMP feature to be used with an 802.11 radio.

What will this mean for Sony's PlayStation 3? If Sony updates the PS3 Bluetooth profile, perhaps your headsets will have...

Video: Patapon 2 Hero for Sony's PlayStation Portable

Video: Patapon 2 Hero for Sony's PlayStation Portable 50°
308w ago - SCEA Associate Producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda shared the following this weekend via PlayStation Blog:

One of the new great features of Patapon 2 is the great masked warrior Hero Patapon.

Hero Patapon is a mythical creature (like a yeti, but cuter and real-er), with magical powers and a heart of gold. His fighting skills are second to none and it's rumored that he beat Chuck Norris in a staring contest (with one eye!).

True this: he is the most powerful Patapon in the WORLD!

So your question is: how do you tap into this awesomeness and channel his amazing-ness into complete Karmen oblivion? Well friends, I have two syllables for you: fe-ver.

That's right, Fever Mode, the magic point in time when your rhythmic prowess sets the Patapons into a frenzy is also the time when Hero Patapons special abilities come to shine. So here is how it will work: lets say you are headed down a jungle, spear in hand chanting Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon (march command) to you heart's delight...and then you see a Kachidonga in the distance...and you strike Pon-Pon-Pata-Pon (attack command).

Under normal conditions, this would set of a hail of spears and arrows from your troops, and if you are in Fever Mode, the hail would blacken...

Sony is Planning Facebook and PS3 In-game Tie-in

Sony is Planning Facebook and PS3 In-game Tie-in 400°
308w ago - Those who have dreamed of your Facebook profile automatically being updated when you gain a trophy on a PS3 game may soon get your wish.

Sony's John Davidson has indicated that they are already working on a PS3-Facebook integration system for games, to quote:

According to Joystiq, a panelist asked John Davidson from Sony whether there would ever be a time when someone could do something on a PS3 game and then could 'spit it out to Facebook'.

Davidson replied that such an idea is already in the works and is "critical not just for marketing but for the types of games we're trying to develop. That day is coming quicker than some may think."
