MAG Screenshots & PS3 Trailer Released from Sony Gamer's Day

MAG Screenshots & PS3 Trailer Released from Sony Gamer's Day 100°
305w ago - Sony has released a bunch of new MAG (Massive Action Game), the upcoming 256 player PS3 exclusive, screens at their Gamer's Day.

The graphics seem rather average but the game is still deep in development and, due to the huge map and battle sizes, mediocre graphics are not surprising.

However, the first MAG gameplay trailer from Sony Gamer's Day 2009 for PS3 is also available.

So those who think the screens look bad, perhaps think again.

Confirmed: Sony's New PlayStation Portable is the PSP Go! 250°
305w ago - Today 1UP (linked above) has published a report on the new PSP, indicating that the new, UMD-less hardware will ship this Fall in Japan and North America, with Sony bringing 100 PSP titles to the PlayStation Store.

Below is also also has an artists' rendition of what the new PSP Go! may look like.

To quote: Sources confirm the next PSP will gain an internal flash drive, ditch UMD, and nix the rumored second analog nub.

Rumors of a major PSP hardware redesign have repeatedly bubbled to the surface over the last several months - some claiming the removal of the system's UMD disc drive, and others pointing to a second analog stick and sliding screen.

According to sources directly involved with the new system, we have learned that Sony will quell those rumors by unveiling their revamped PSP at this year's E3 conference in June.

Many have speculated that the update would be called either the PSP 2 or PSP-4000, but our sources claim Sony will forgo a numerical moniker in favor of a subtitle.

We've heard various rumored code names for the project (including PSP Slide, PSP Flip, and PSP Go!), but given that Sony has introduced the Go! brand of add-ons...

Next3D 3D Movie Player Coming to Mac and Sony's PS3 Console 100°
305w ago - Next3D has confirmed that its 3D movie player technology is heading to the PS3 as well as the MAC platform. The software is free, and the technology can provide 1080p high definition stereoscopic imagery.

Next3D's technology is based around a proposed specification for the H.264 video standard.

To quote: Next3D announced Monday that its 3D Movie player technology will be released for Macs and for Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console. The software will be free and will work in conjunction with Next3D's content delivery service.

Next3D movies are encoded using technology that provides 1080P-resolution high-definition stereoscopic imagery, along with digital rights management, distribution and auditing mechanisms for content providers.

The software made a splash at last month's Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco; a public beta is expected to be made available soon for the Xbox 360 version.

Next3D's technology is based around a proposed specification for the H.264 video standard already in use; the proposed spec adds support for compression of multi-view-based content.

When paired with a 3D-capable...

Sony: Xi is Growing in PlayStation Home for PS3 Users!

Sony: Xi is Growing in PlayStation Home for PS3 Users! 50°
305w ago - Yesterday we reported on some PlayStation Home Alpha Zone 2 Images that were leaked, and today some official details are available from PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star, as follows:

Xi - the world's first console-based ARG, exclusive to PlayStation Home - just got bigger. The eagerly-awaited second Alpha Zone has opened up today, and there's plenty of fun stuff awaiting you. Can you escape the Fish Tanks of Good & Evil...?

There are a few numbered screens on the walls, promising more games and puzzles to come. The yin-yang symbol on the floor suggests there's a "light'n'dark, good'n'evil" theme to this place. But is everything as black and white as it seems? We're guessing not.

Given that this game has already included a giant jigsaw puzzle on billboards across Europe, a shiatsu massage game, flying cows, and a pair of classic text adventures, we're not quite sure what to expect next.

If you want to find out for yourself, fire up PlayStation Home and head for the Xi logo tagged on the wall in Central Plaza.

Top Five Ways Microsoft's XBox 360 Has Beaten Sony's PS3

Top Five Ways Microsoft's XBox 360 Has Beaten Sony's PS3 550°
306w ago - The war to win the hard-core gamer has been fought bitterly between two giants - Sony the veteran and Microsoft the young upstart. The kid took its beating the first generation.

Sony laughed at him for having the nerve and audacity to compete with the champion. The kid knew it was bested, but he licked his wounds and trained harder. He came back a man, a muscled machine, and showed the old-timer he deserved to be crowned the title.

This is his story:

5) Third Party Exclusives
Exclusives will make and break a console platform. Take the GameCube for example. With high licensing fees and inadequate support, third party software were put out there to die and so the third party support dried up too. Consequently GameCube died shortly after.

On the flip-side, PS2 won the console war on the strength of its third party support. Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and Tekken were all system-selling games for PS2. Now how many of those franchises has Sony been able to retain for the PS3? Looks like only Metal Gear.

Microsoft made a heavy investment to lure third party developers into the 360 camp. By launching their system a year ahead of PS3, the 360 was able to give developers more time to acclimate to an already familiar-looking platform architecture....
