Street Figher Alpha and Rayman Next PS1 Games to PS3?

Street Figher Alpha and Rayman Next PS1 Games to PS3? 50°
372w ago - What would you say if I said that Street Fighter was coming to your PSP? Or even that Rayman, that little guy with detached limbs, was jumping onto your portable machine? I think you'd be a tad surprised. Sony hasn't announced any such marriage, but from my snooping, I'd hazard a guess that both will be on your PSP very soon.

Oh, and on your PS3 for that matter. We reported the listing of an ESRB rating for Warhawk on the PSP not long ago. Though we dreamt of an original PSP game, the reality was that the original PS1 Warhawk was released over the PSN network to be played on the PS3 and PSP.

Now the same ratings have been afforded by the ESRB for Street Fighter Alpha and Rayman for the PSP and PS3. From our experience this is a clear confirmation of both of these titles coming to the Playstation Store very soon.

So if you can't wait for Street Fighetr IV, have a dabble with it's big ole dad, and reminisce on the days when 2d graphics actually meant 2d.

Blu-ray Skies Are Here!

Blu-ray Skies Are Here! 100°
373w ago - The fat lady hasn't sung yet, but for all intents and purposes, it looks like the next-generation DVD battle between Blu-ray and HD DVD is pretty much over.

The winner of the two-year battle - akin to the Betamax and VHS war of the '80s - seems to be Blu-ray, thanks largely to Warner Bros. Home Video's recent announcement that it'll be going all Blu-ray, all the time, after late May. (It had been the only movie studio that hadn't picked a side, releasing in both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats.)

Warner will be joining Blu-ray-only studios including Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, MGM and Lionsgate. This leaves Universal, Paramount and DreamWorks as the sole HD DVD supporters - although it's been reported that Paramount will be ditching its HD DVD support now that Warner Bros. has done it, thanks to a clause in Paramount's HD DVD-exclusivity contract.

What does this mean for you? Here are some answers to those burning questions you have about Blu-ray.

Can you use a Blu-ray player if you don't have a high-def TV?

Yes, but unless you've got a TV producing 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolution, "there's no point in buying a Blu-ray player," says David Katzmaier, CNET.com senior editor. "You can hook it up...

Nintendo, Sony face new patent suit

Nintendo, Sony face new patent suit 100°
373w ago - Wii and PS3 manufacturers taken to court by Pennsylvania man over wireless controller technology.

Ever since Immersion Corporation won its lawsuit against Sony over the rumble technology in PlayStation and PlayStation 2 DualShock controllers (and eventually forced nearly $100 million in damages and interest from the electronics giant), patent litigation has been a subject of keen interest in the gaming industry.

One of numerous figures from the patent. The latest dispute comes from the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, where Copper Innovations Group late last month filed suit against Nintendo and Sony for a patent it holds on a "Hand Held Computer Input Apparatus and Method."

The patent--which was filed in January of 1996--covers a method for connecting devices to a system and sorting their inputs by means of hardware identification numbers tied to each transmission. According to the suit, Nintendo and Sony are violating the Copper Innovations Group's patent by making and selling their systems and controllers. The Wii Remote, Wii Nunchuk, Sixaxis controller, and Blu-ray Remote Control are all named in the suit as infringing products.

Copper Innovations Group is seeking damages plus interest, legal fees, and an injunction permanently prohibiting...
