Reporters Without Borders' annual study of press freedom says China is one of the worst offenders, having imprisoned 50 people for postings on the internet.

The report says governments realise the internet is now a key tool in promoting democracy and are moving to curb it.

390w ago - The .asia regional internet domain has officially opened for business, with big firms expected to grab addresses.

Governments and companies can now register interest in specific domain names, such as www.namehere.asia.

Companies will be able to register domains for which they own a trademark and governments will get a chance to earmark those on a reserved list.

If the upgrade process is interrupted before reflashing is completed the wiikey chip will be left in an inoperable state where it cannot load GC/Wii discs. The Recovery disc can be used to restore its firmware.

Stephen Timms, Minister for Competitiveness, ordered a summit to look at the role of government in providing next-generation broadband.

While other countries are investing in new ways to deliver higher bandwidth, the UK is seen as lagging behind.
