Nintendo and ELSPA Team to Battle DS Piracy 50°
February 8, 2008 // 11:13 pm - The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association says it is working in conjunction with Nintendo to battle software piracy.

ELSPA is intent on stamping out piracy, it said in a statement to Next-Gen, as devices such as the R4 chip, which bypass the DS's security system allowing users to play pirated games illegally downloaded from the internet, continue to hamper software sales.

"The ELSPA Intellectual Property Crime Unit is evaluating the R4 game copying device, as it allows for the downloading and play of illegal Nintendo DS software available via the internet.

A Wii warm-up hones surgical skills 100°
January 18, 2008 // 12:56 pm - YOU might think it a bad idea for trainee surgeons to play games on the Nintendo Wii when they should be studying, but it might be time well spent.

Kanav Kahol and Marshall Smith of the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, have found that surgical residents performed better during simulated surgery after playing on the Wii console. They put it down to the console's novel "Wiimote" control system, which allows players to direct on-screen action using a wireless wand that detects acceleration in three dimensions.

Now they are designing Wii software that...

Populous Coming to a Japanese DS Near You 50°
December 31, 2007 // 2:06 pm - With all the focus on SimCity and SimCity2 on the DS, it seems one of my favorite city building games is getting overlooked.

Populous, the finger pointing god game is finally making it's way onto Nintendo's popular handheld! EA Japan already has a website up for the game that looks to have been up for quite a few months.

The site is minimal and all in Japanese, but it does have some small screen shots and such tucked in there for the adventurous clicker. The splash page announces that the game will be released in Japan on Feb. 21, 2008 and something tells me the US version...

December 28, 2007 // 2:51 pm - Ski Freak wrote in to tell us of an interesting presentation that took place at the 24th Annual Chaos Communication Congress (24C3) right now; it would appear that a fully hacked Wii capable of running native homebrew with full hardware access has been presented.

From the report: The guys over at 24C3 just demoed a Wii hack that is set to provide native wii homebrew in the near future (not running in GC mode, and with full access to all the Wii hardware!)

They were able to find encryption and decryption...
