Gearbox's Randy Pitchford Talks Duke Nukem Forever PS3 Version

200°
195w ago - SCEE's James Gallagher has shared an interview today with Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software on the upcoming PS3 version of Duke Nukem Forever.

To quote: "It's like shaking hands with Bigfoot or riding the Loch Ness monster," said Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford when talking about finally releasing Duke Nukem Forever.

Look up the term 'vaporware' and Duke Nukem Forever will likely be used as an example, but it's real and it's coming to U.S. PS3s in less than two weeks. I caught up with Randy to ask why you should always bet on Duke.

Duke is an all-American hero with the Stars and Stripes featuring heavily in the game's art style, but characters like that haven't always been so popular internationally. Why is Duke an exception?

It's because Duke is a caricature of all that - it's silly! Duke Nukem takes place 12 years after Duke saved the world and he has leveraged that to live like a king. He's walked on the moon, climbed Everest... he's done it all.

The only thing bothering him is that they were supposed to make a video game about him saving the world and it has taken 12 years for them to finish it. I think it's that angle that makes it work internationally because we parody...

Duke Nukem Forever: PS3 Details and Duke's PlayStation Roots

350°
201w ago - Gearbox Software President, CEO and co-founder Randy Pitchford has revealed some details on the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever PS3 game alongside sharing Duke's PlayStation roots.

To quote: Not so long ago, the whole of gaming faced a terrible evil - a threat so grave that few knew of its true scope, a threat so intense that even fewer were capable fighting back.

The greatest video game hero - Duke Nukem, our King- was on the verge of being lost forever.

A world without Duke Nukem wasn't something I even wanted to consider. I know that because of my history with Duke that I'm not objective about it, but I also know I'm not the only one.

In the interests of full disclosure, long before Gearbox was founded, long before we developed our games for Half-Life, long before we created new brands including Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, it was working with Duke Nukem at 3D Realms (with Gearbox co-founder Brian Martel) that launched my professional career as a game maker.

That's why, when bad things started to happen and the future of Duke Nukem Forever was hanging in the balance, Gearbox got involved. How could we let Duke die? The world needs Duke Nukem. Duke Nukem is the...

Flukes1 LV1 / LV2 Peek and Poke PS3 Tools Are Now Available

550°
215w ago - Following last week's PS3 LV2 Kernel Peek / Poke Patched news, today flukes1 has released his LV1 and LV2 Peek and Poke Tools for PlayStation 3 developers.

Download: LV1/LV2 Peek and Poke PS3 Tools

To quote: As you may know if you’ve been following my progress, last week I took a short break from Wi-Fi Sync to look at the PS3 and how it works behind the scenes. The PS3 homebrew scene is currently at a point where you can install userland packages, such as FTPDs and SNES emulators, but you still don’t have any access to the hypervisor or GameOS kernel. It’s still very much a closed system.

As an iPhone developer with an app on Cydia, I can see great potential within the PS3. It’s crying out for a decent package manager, but you need OS-level access to do that effectively. Unlocking the PS3 in this way has other benefits too; the system can effectively be modified in any way you wish.

So today I’m releasing three tools which open the PS3’s hypervisor (lv1) and GameOS (lv2) to full read/write access from packaged userland applications. These tools...

Sony Offers Preview of PlayStation Official Magazine UK Issue 53

50°
218w ago - Today Deputy Editor Leon Hurley at OPM has shared a preview of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK Issue 53.

To quote: This month I am all about LittleBigPlanet 2. I was lucky enough to get to write the world exclusive review and I can tell you now, it's brilliant.

How brilliant is something you'll have to find out about in the mag. That said making this little target shooting game has been one of my gaming highlights of the year. Anyway, on to the issue!

The big news this month (aside from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception) is our 2010 Game Of The Year feature. Or GOTY to its friends. These are the ones you voted for. We count down the top ten in detail, talk about our choices and hand out some 'alternative' awards. Including Biggest Disappointment and - fanfare - Biggest Install! There's also a complete top 40 of all the games voted for.

Probably the best thing you'll read this month is news ed Rachel's rapping adventure. After a bit of brash boasting about her Def Jam Rapstar skills we called her bluff and bundled her off to learn real wordplay with British rapper XO Man.

He's seven-foot and, according to Flavour magazine, is the "UK's answer to Andre 3000″. Rachel's five foot...

PSP 6.35 Firmware HBL Arrives for Minna no Sukkiri Demo Exploit

850°
219w ago - Just under a month ago Sony released PSP System Software v6.35, and over the weekend some1 via wololo (linked abaove) has released a HBL Homebrew Loader for PSP Firmware 6.35 via the Minna no Sukkiri Demo Exploit by Jeerum.

Download: Sukkiri HBL for PSP FW 6.35 / Minna no Sukkiri PSP Demo / Jeerum PSP FW 6.35 Exploit

To quote: some1 had been working with m0skit0 and JJS on porting HBL to this exploit. It is unfortunate that the release has to happen like this, but some1 had to release his files much earlier than expected because of the leak.

You can download HBL for the sukkiri exploit here. I haven't tested it yet, and we will be working on a "proper" release in the days to come. If everything goes well, we will probably drop support for the previous exploits (the golf ones at least), in favor of this one.

This release makes HBL work on 6.35, in theory (haven't tested yet)"
