170w ago - Sony European Product Manager Erica Doddato has posted up the official Start the Party - Save the World PlayStation 3 trailer video today.

To quote: Start the Party! Save the World is hitting the shelf this week and it's packed with 20 fun-filled mini-games that will fire up your evenings with your friends and family.

Determined to take over the world by any means necessary, Dr. Terrible has a whole host of fiendish plans up his sleeve: dumping toxic waste in the water supply, attacking people with man-eating piranhas or unleashing a swarm of poisonous bugs on the world, nothing is beneath him.

Armed with a motion controller and PlayStation Eye camera, it's up to you and your friends to use whatever tools are at your disposal to foil Dr. Terrible's evil schemes!




Transform your PS Move into a mechanical grabbing arm, use it as a laser zapper to shoot down alien invaders or even jump into a deep-sea submarine to rescue divers stranded at the bottom of the ocean.

To quote: Following on from the 2010 Move-exclusive smash-hit Start The Party! comes a heroic sequel that will turn every party into a race to save the world.

Packed with over 20 fun filled mini-games, Start The Party! Save the World! puts you, your friends and family into the heart of the action and on the screen.

The evil Dr Terrible has gone berserk and is trying to destroy the world - use your PlayStation Move to stop him!

Get your face in the game and interact with some wacky objects that will appear straight into your living room: save stranded divers, defuse bombs before they explode, splat shoals of mutant piranhas, do battle with dinosaurs and zap alien invaders out of the sky.

As you can see, they are pretty dangerous missions - but no need to worry: you can always ask your friends and family to help out.

Every mini-game can be enjoyed in two types of multi-player mode: pass the controller to get your friends into the action or use both a motion controller...
 

Rumor: Sony to Start PS4 Production at End of 2011

190w ago - Today Aaron Lee of DigiTimes.com (linked above) reports that according to Taiwan makers Sony is rumored to start production of the PS4 console at the end of 2011.

To quote: Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out.

The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated.

Start-Up Caustic Graphics Inc. Promises More Game Realism

312w ago - A start-up founded by former Apple Inc. engineers said it has developed technology that could bring film-like realism to computer games and change the way movie makers and other design professionals work.

The San Francisco company, Caustic Graphics Inc., plans to exploit a technique called ray-tracing that generates extremely accurate three-dimensional images. Ray-tracing is a mainstay of Hollywood studios, but remains out of reach for most PC users. A single image can take hours to generate; rendering a film can take months on hundreds of server systems.

To quote: Computer games and other PC software typically rely on a technology called rasterization. Though the results keep getting more realistic, developing an interactive form of ray-tracing has been a longtime quest in the computer industry.

Caustic, whose name refers to light rays reflecting off a curved object, says it is close to achieving that goal. The company says its software and chips allow graphics chips to carry out ray-tracing calculations at a 20-fold speed-up compared with existing PC hardware. It said it expects to deliver chips by early 2010 that will be about 200 times faster.
